i've been struggling with words for a long time
maybe it's because the only language i fluently speak is english, unfortunately.
i've never felt "at home" anywhere in the united states- and i have lived in the city, the country, the suburbs, the north, mid-south, and northwest. every place has been beautiful. i unintentionally 'searched' for 4 decades before finally realizing that was likely the price you pay as the descendant of settler/colonizers- you never really know what homeland feels like. my heart aches deeply to think about how it must feel to have and know a homeland but not be 'allowed' to live with the land that knows and loves you back.
i have accepted that the best i think i may ever know in this lifetime is that i am human and of this planet
and it's my responsibility to do whatever i am able to honor and support the efforts of all indigenous peoples to keep/reclaim/protect their lands. by @paper_wire_art

(the morning light coming through the crack in the window curtain just adding to what is the best thing i think i have ever collaborated with some wire, pliers, a little bit of paper and pencil. i say collaborate because i was just a conduit. this art created itself. still a work in progress....will keep going✨️) by @paper_wire_art

in a few hours, i will have officially completed another year's rotation round the sun
please don't ever take breathable air, drinkable water, or the kindness of others for granted
do what you can to ease the struggles of another and if you cannot ease, at least do not add
also, hopelessness is a choice for everyone living a comfortable life
if that's you, you know it's you i'm talking to hopelessness is a choice
apathy is a choice
don't pick those
love to those who love me and thank you for the love- i love you so much there are no english words for me to accurately express how deeply and how much
may i have the good fortune to live many more years being too sensitive, crying too easily, and loving irrationally

this is for you who care
for those of you who don't, why are you here? what are you looking for? is there something you need from me? asking sincerely.
some say this world we are living in is a collective dream. what are you contributing to the collective dreaming?
i have been symbolically wrapping our collective dream in cool, soothing mint leaves and mint tea even though i know it cannot heal all that has been (and is being) broken. but i will cover my arms in temporary tattoos shaped like hearts that were gifted to me by a child. and i will keep asking you to care and do whatever you can. because we can dream a better world than this, but you must care ❤️‍🩹🕸🪔🍓🌕📿 keep educating yourself and keep your heart open to love so that it can be broken. otherwise, what is the point of anything?

it's not about what you eat as much as it is how. my grandpa would always remove his hat, close his eyes, and bow his head to say grace (quietly to himself) before he ate anything. i have a distinct memory from decades ago of watching him do this with a slice of pepperoni pizza on a paper plate from Little Caesars. and that was when something clicked in my mind. it's not what, it's how. the gratitude and the honor i hold for him, and all the things he taught me is immense.
i have been vegetarian for more than 13 years now and vegan for 4, because one day, i really looked into the eyes of a goldfish. and then i couldn't stop looking into the eyes of everything. at the time i lived in arkansas, so i knew the likelihood of ever eating better fried chicken or pulled pork again was probably impossible. since i don't HAVE to eat meat or dairy, i don't. plus, the literal cost is high. my dad still occasionally says things to me like , "i mean, i know you probably don't look, but have you seen the price of steak these days?!"
i don't care what YOU eat. that seems to be a common misconception most everyone makes when they learn that i dont eat meat. my grandpa was among the very very few who didn't think a thing about it and just respected my choice while everyone else was making jokes and asking me about protein.
i care about the how. and if you ever really look into the eyes of other living beings. or, especially, your own eyes. 💚🕸
