I read 8 books between the last day of school and the first day of school. 5 came from the 19 in my original stack. I read so many good stories!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Brave the Wild River by Melissa L. Sevigny and Falling from Horses by Molly Gloss were my favorites. Coincidentally they both take place in 1938 but the similarities end there. One is nonfiction about female botanists in Grand Canyon, and the other is fiction about cowboy stunt men in Hollywood. I can’t ever watch an old western the same again.
I’m adding Parable of the Talents to this list as well. At first I gave it 4 stars because it’s an emotionally difficult story to read. But I went back and gave it 5 stars because the story stayed with me for so long after I read it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley
Gwendy’s Button Box by Stephen King
The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub
All very good! Scratched that Summerween itch.

⭐️⭐️
I read Theo of Golden by Allen Levi and Time Shelter by Georgi Gospodinov for my book club. I usually love the books we pick but I had 2 misses this summer.
I know people love Theo (sorry Sara-you might want to stop reading!💙) and I loved the beginning of the story. I did not love the Christian proselytizing throughout.
I have quotes marked in Time Shelter, but maybe something was lost in the translation for me. Tough to get through but I did it for my book club.

How was your summer reading?
Do you have plans for your fall reading?

This summer I read Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler. It was a solid follow up to Parable of the Sower full of the same struggle, hope, and creepy foresight. I read that this was meant to be a trilogy, but the ending was satisfying and now it’s up to me to imagine the future of Earthseed.
I gladly accepted @melanatedreader ‘s challenge to help read @1milblackbooks this summer!

I also made a collage page for my art journal to document starting the book.

Bluebeard’s Egg: Stories by Margaret Atwood was a good collection of short stories, nice for a busy time of year. None really stand out now that I’m done but I was entertained at the time.
Bombadil helped me read it.

This month @junk.this.universe challenged us to make a Whimsical page using the subscription kit. Coincidentally I recently put the Morbid, yet full of whimsy meme by @shopmermaidvenom in my Stories and decided it would be a fun start to my page. Using the background paper, whimsy and rage die cut quote, and clown and star stickers from the kit + 2 stickers from my horror sticker book I quickly put this together.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Here’s my August sticker-a-day or washi-a-day! I used stickers that tell about my day, washi tape, a sticker I found on the ground, a sticky note, and junk stickers that I took off of things I’ve purchased.

🩵 We lost Jackie, Hayden, Dolly, Tim, and Chobani Oat Milk this month but I still persevered and tried to keep it cute. 🩵

This month I’ve been reading The Eye of the Elephant by Delia Owens and her husband Mark. Yes, Where the Crawdads Sing Delia Owens! They both took turns writing chapters of their adventure, and it was interesting to see each of their perspectives.
🐘 This is a true story written in the 1990s about their lion research work in Africa which turned into an effort to save the elephants in Zambia from poaching. It was definitely difficult to read at times, especially since I was expecting more beauty nature writing like in Crawdads, but it made me so thankful for people like the Owens who do the hard work to make conservation happen. The people of Zambia are also to be commended for being willing to make change to save their wildlife. Shoutout to George Bush for signing on with other world leaders to make the trade of ivory illegal.
🪶 There was one part Delia wrote that stopped me like, This was ripped straight from her life and put into Crawdads. Fun! 🐚
📚 Read if you like armchair adventures!
🦁 Thank you for reading this with me @lbrownepaul ! I’m always thankful to share a book together.
📚 I haven’t had the chance to ask in awhile, what are YOU reading?

Sorry for the late drop, fans, but here’s my June sticker-a-day or washi-a-day! I used stickers that tell about my day, free planner stickers from junk mail, washi tape scraps, and junk stickers that I took off of things I’ve purchased.
A lot of washi this month because I did a lot of scrapbooking. Also I had a lot of naps and reading so you could say I’ve been feeling groovy.
