Just a book loving mom from East Texas. Hunting thrift stores for my next favorite read 📚🌲
• Thrillers & Romance

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A little reintroduction because I figured it was time y'all got to know the girl behind the books....

I'm just a small town east Texas mom who's finding her way back to reading and making a little space for hobbies that are just for ME. 🤎 You'll usually find me hunting for books at thrift stores, checking out the library, or falling down a booktok rabbit hole and adding way more books to my TBR than I can possibly keep up with.

I'm a sucker for a good plot twist (bonus points if I never see it coming), family secrets, a little betrayal, and the occasional cozy romance to balance out all my fictional trust issues. 🫠
I'm keeping this a faceless little corner of the internet, but I thought it was time to show a little more of the real life behind it.

If you're a fellow book lover, thrift-store book hunter, or just someone trying to find your way back to the things you love, I'm glad you're here. 🤎

49 Miles Alone is about two cousins that head out on a four-day hiking trip through the Utah desert, hoping to reconnect and put a difficult year behind them. But when things take a dangerous turn, their trip becomes a fight for survival. With the wilderness working against them and a mystery unfolding along the way, things quickly become much more complicated than either of them expected.

My thoughts:

Okayyy this one was SO good!! I wasn't sure how much I'd enjoy the survival aspect at first, but it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the story. It added such an interesting layer to the psychological suspense, and having three different points of view made the mystery even more intriguing because you get to see things unfold from different perspectives.
One thing that really stuck with me is how this book reminds you that even the most experienced person can find themselves in a situation where everything goes wrong. Sometimes, things are simply out of your control, and that made the survival aspect feel even more intense. I found myself wanting to keep reading just to see how everything would play out! Definitely a great read if you enjoy survival stories mixed with psychological suspense 🤗

When Hazel, the owner of Dream Harbor’s cozy little bookstore, finds herself pulled into a bit of a mystery. She teams up with Noah, a local fisherman, to figure out what’s going on. Along the way, their little investigation turns into unexpected adventures and a sweet summer romance.

I’m really starting to love the fact that each book so far has had its own little mystery/adventure mixed in with the romance. It keeps the story moving and gives you something to wonder about besides just the relationship. This one definitely had more spice than The Pumpkin Spice Café. It was an easy, fun read with romance, small-town charm, a little mystery, and just enough adventure to keep things interesting. I’m definitely enjoying this series and already want to see what happens next in Dream Harbor!

The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore follows Jeanie, who leaves her old life behind and moves to Dream Harbor to take over a cozy little café. Between settling into her new town and getting to know Logan, the local farmer who keeps everyone at arm’s length, she finds herself caught up in a sweet small town romance.

My thoughts:

This was such a cute and easy read! I really enjoyed the cozy fall vibes, the small town setting, and the romance. It was exactly the kind of book I needed... light, fun, and easy to get through. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the Dream Harbor series! And since this was my first “spicy” book… I’d say the spice was very mild. There were definitely some spicy moments, but nothing that had me blushing 😂 I’d personally rate it around a 2/5 for spice. #pumpkinspicecafe #lauriegilmore #dreamharborseries #bookreview #romancenovel taken in Piney Woods Of East Texas by @paperbacksinthepineys

Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica follows a small-town mystery surrounding the disappearance of two women, Shelby Tebow and Meredith Dickey, and Meredith’s young daughter Delilah. Years later, Delilah suddenly returns home, bringing old questions back to the surface and forcing everyone to revisit what really happened. Told through multiple perspectives and timelines, the story slowly pieces together the events surrounding the disappearances and the secrets that have been buried for years. As more details come to light, the lines between what people remember, what they believe, and what actually happened begin to blur.

My thoughts: I enjoyed this one! It definitely took me a little while to get into because it was much slower-paced than It’s Not Her, which completely hooked me from the beginning. Once this story finally started picking up, though, I was so invested and wanted to know how everything was going to come together. I thought it was a good mystery and definitely kept me curious enough to keep reading #localwomanmissing
