Eine kreative Anleitung ins freie Zeichnen vor Ort. Der Fokus liegt auf dem, was sich nicht sagen lässt. Zeichnen wird als ergänzende Form des Zuhörens verstanden. Ein offenes Format für alle, die das Festival auf neue Weise erfahren möchten.
Nach einer zweistündigen Einführung im Atelier besuchen wir gemeinsam die drei Lesungen am Samstagnachmittag. Es geht nicht um Perfektion, sondern um Ausdruck, Atmosphäre und Freude am Zeichnen.
Vorkenntnisse sind nicht erforderlich. Material zum Skizzieren wird bereitgestellt oder Eigenes kann mitgebracht werden.

Holiday memory no. 2 - Dartmoor, Devon

The drive through Dartmoor was one of the most memorable parts of my whole holiday. I’m a big fan of vast, barren landscapes. Add to that the warm autumn colours. When the atmosphere of the landscape remains similar over long stretches, it naturally makes it much easier to capture the scenery quickly. taken in Dartmoor National Park by @papermoon_32

Holiday memory no. 1 - Cornwall

To prolong the holiday in my mind a little longer, I’d like to post a few more holiday sketches. I’ll start with a little morning sketch at the harbour in St Ives.

It doesn’t take much: two pencils, a coffee and a few relaxing minutes.

Driving through beautiful country lanes in Devon. From the passenger seat, of course.
I love catching little glimpses along the way: a tunnel of trees, a winding road, a cottage. Not trying to capture exactly what’s there, but collecting moods, colours and impressions and bringing them together into newly views in my sketchbook.

A little bit seen, a little bit remembered, a little bit imagined.

We’re incredibly lucky with the weather. Everything is bathed in warm autumnal colours. And I’m also very happy with the choice of colours in the art supplies I’ve brought with me. It gives me great pleasure.

Same spot as yesterday. I also wanted to sketch the harbour at high tide. Today I had a 25 minutes time slot from my family. There were loads more boats on the water, but I didn’t have enough minutes. 😆
What I think turned out particularly well is ‘Woman with a dog on the beach’ – recognisable (I hope!) on the second slide. Just one more swipe and you’ll see the drawing at low tide.

Many people stop here because it is said to be the birthplace of King Arthur. This impresses me less than the incredibly beautiful landscape. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time there to finish the drawing. But I was still so filled with the power of those memories that I finished painting it back at the holiday flat.

I applied the first layer using masking fluid to preserve the white of the sea spray. I then continued working with watercolours and #neoart by @carandache

I usually always sketch outdoors on location. But when I unpacked my things today, the wind picked up so strongly that I decided against it, and as it started to rain afterwards, I retreated to my hotel room with a cosy cup of black tea (with milk, of course). The windowsill served as my studio, and for once I began sketching from memory and my reference photo. It was absolutely lovely.

An evening sketch in backlight. There’s not much more to say about it. 30 minutes, a blue, a yellow, a dark purple and a bright orange from @roman_szmal_art watercolour set (which were put together for the Urban sketcher Symposium in Toulouse 2026), plus a bit of white and a black coloured pencil; that’s all it takes to create a lovely memory. taken in Meielsgrund by @papermoon_32

A big thank you to @roman_szmal_art for the perfect choice of colours for the Urbsnsketcher Symposium Toulouse colour set. Apart from a white acrylic marker and a black coloured pencil, I used only the four watercolours from @roman_szmal_art 💙🤍🩵 taken in Meielsgrund by @papermoon_32

I was drawing from the side balcony of the gallery. As a result, I could only see some of the musicians. That’s why I decided to take a free approach to draw the arrangement. This resulted in a sort of thought bubble – or music bubble – representing the act of listening.

The drawing consists of just two materials: a black coloured pencil and a brush pen in a lovely shade of lilac-grey.

Arcangelo and Jonathan Cohen brought this year’s Menuhin Festival Gstaad to a close with a performance of the B Minor Mass from Bach - one of the greatest works ever written.
