Woke up this morning, took the dog out, and walked into the coffee shop to see a stack of these sitting there. Totally caught off guard seeing myself on the cover.

Thank you @ladowntownnews for the feature, and thank you to all the artists who help make @paperworknyc what it is — and what it ain’t.

I first met @best_obies in London a couple years back at a bar with The London Vagabond. One late night consisted of a police chase, a pint of piss, and some rump shaking.

We ended up wandering the streets for hours, riding double-decker buses while Obies shared photos and stories from his hometown—flattened by bombs. Images of bodies, destruction, and the absurd realities of war.

Then last year we found ourselves in Thailand after he relocated to Vietnam to focus entirely on his art. That's when he started telling me about a massive book he wanted to make.

Instead, we decided to start with a prequel.

LONG STORY SHORT || @best_obies 📚🚨

How hard it is to find light when darkness is all around.

How hard it is to create when everything around you is destroyed.

How hard it is to love when surrounded by hatred.

How hard it is to live when death is everywhere.

This story began when war came into my home — a terrifying, merciless war.

It is a story of losing a home, losing the past, losing a world that once brought joy.

A story of loss and the search for meaning.

Of losing and searching for a home.

Of losing and searching for peace.

It is a story of inner and outer struggle, of victories and defeats.

A story of destruction and creation.

A story about choice.

A story about war and peace.

Death and life.

New Zine Alert 🚨

MOTION - Sean Maung captures a summer in Los Angeles. Moving through the streets, women of the night, and the people who define the city, the work is direct and unpolished. A clear snapshot of LA energy.
