Shot by Kelsey Mulholland (@butterflycheeto) for a collaboration 🤍 Featuring her collage work

A gentle reminder to remember who you’re creating for when it’s not for a client. As florists, we create for brands, markets, couples, events - but we can only hope to stay connected to the inner child who started it all (That’s her on the last slide in 2012)… 🤍 I miss when IG was just a place to be creative and sometimes embarrassing but somehow we weren’t “trying hard” nearly as much as we often feel we have to today.

When I create things that I know would make the girl in that photo happy, I feel at peace.

NYC is full of flowers hiding in plain sight, or just simply planted amongst so much action, that we forget to look for them.

Hostas cloaked in the shade of their own big leaves. Columbine looking like something from another planet. Hollyhocks climbing skyward next to the bike lane. Lilies blooming in clusters like the crowded standing room at your favorite bar. And yes, that last one is a mystery mushroom.

I love that you can walk through the city and find an entire botanical world happening quietly around you if you start paying attention.

This is a huge part of why I love flowers: learning to slow down & actually see them.

I’m teaching a floral class where we’ll do a little of exactly that: slow down, look closely, learn about flowers, and make something beautiful with them.

Details & sign-up on the last slide 🌸

What should I identify next?
