@smcguideservice and @williamshunting made it happen for me on this exceptional “Baja” blacktail in central California. This ancient old buck had teeth worn to the gum and has regressed antlers to match his age.
Went big on this hunt and took a @browningfirearms Speed 2 SPR in 6.5 PRC with @hornadymfg 130-grain CX hand-loads. At 400 yards the bullet zipped through the buck as he barely made it 40yds down the steep mountain before piling up in a large oak tree. Been a heater of a year , but still not as cool as @muleycrazy89 !! taken in San Jose, California by @papwinkle

Had an exceptional trip last week to central California with @smcguideservice @williamshunting hunting Blacktail and Boars. We wanted a giant boar and it took no time to find this dinosaur and anchored him with @hornadymfg 130gr CX performed as expected. Sam and Colby have these boars dialed in and make it happen for their hunters. Definitely a bucket list animal for me. by @papwinkle

Why use a hammer when you can use a scalpel? First shot 300 PRC, then 22 ARC with 71 grain @mcguire.ballistics Copper Rose at 3,300 fps. Every shot was single bag on a rock with no rear support. When we talk about recoil and recoil management, this is what we mean — now how much you may or may not like getting pounded. #pissantcartridges by @papwinkle

Nyala are one of my favorite animals to hunt in Africa. They steal the show with their wild rutting displays of circling their adversaries and flaring the hair along their back and belly. I have even seen Nyala bulls chase of mature Kudu bulls that were twice their size! Similar in size to a Mule deer buck, we have taken them with 22 CM and 25 CM loaded with @hornadymfg bullets at distances between 300-600 yds. Not one of these great bulls could pack these tiny bullets very far. Thinking 2027/28 should be a Piss Ant Safari, a trip with @crusader_safaris @thetylerfreel , myself and anyone else bold enough to hunt plains game with small caliber rifles …. Show all the nay sayers what’s up. Who’s down? taken in Crusader Safaris by @papwinkle

There are countless options when it comes to choosing a deer hunting cartridge. For most of us hunting whitetail deer across the country the need for magnum cartridges is dwindling with the increased production of modern cartridges and bullets. Low recoiling rifles are a lot more fun to shoot and offer more than ample velocity to make quick work of even the largest of whitetails! Swipe right to see a beautiful whitetail buck taken with Hornady’s 22 ARC! What’s your go-to rifle cartridge for hunting whitetail deer ? @hornadymfg by @papwinkle

Just checked flights for fun…For $7,500 we can fly next week to South Africa and hunt bushbuck …. that’s flights, day rate, trophy fees and gratuities… cheaper than most guided elk and deer hunts in the west , but you’ll actually see game….who’s going with me? @bill_plucker ? @jtvinton ? @reloadingquest ? by @papwinkle

A great Warthog taken with the Horizon Firearms 22 Creedmoor with Hornady ammo. I just burned this barrel out and have a new 18” PROOF Research Sendero spun on. Going to compare this standard 8 Twist to the new PXT 18” blank I have on order for another 22 CM. Be great for side-by-side comparison for barrel life, MV and accuracy. taken in Crusader Safaris by @papwinkle

Bushbuck are by far my favorite animal to hunt in Africa and if I had to pick one animal to hunt for the rest of my years, it would be a toss up between Whitetail and Bushbuck. They are elusive and can make the cagiest whitetail seem tame at times. When we glassed this ram in the open just before dark, I quickly setup the rifle in the tall grass, @mbagz2 said she didn’t think I was gonna give up the rifle as she knows my obsession with them. But being the amazing husband that I am, I got her setup for the 580-yard shot on the stud ram before he fed back into the bush. She absolutely crushed him with the Horizon 25 CM rocking her lucky @northamericanwhitetailmag hat! 🤙 taken in Umkomaas, KwaZulu-Natal by @papwinkle

This Nyala bull was rutting hard chasing females in an acacia thicket below our high point over looking a river bend. We watched the bull breed a female and chase another bull out of the area before he disappeared back into the thicket. We waited patiently, hoping he would appear in one of the few openings we had to shoot through when he suddenly appeared and walked through the best opening only to stop behind a large tree before we could get a shot. For some reason he turned around and walked right back out into the open and stopped at 360yds for @mbagz2 to send a 112-grain CX through his chest! The big rutted up bull made it 20-yards into the thicket before collapsing.. The first reported Nyala bull taken with the 112-grain CX and likely not the last, due to the perfect bullet performance. Once again the small, fast twist copper bullets punch way above their weight class on the dark continent. taken in Umkomaas, KwaZulu-Natal by @papwinkle
