DANCE WITH ME 《與我共舞》

LEAVE YOUR FEAR HERE.

Under the same eclipse, dance with me so we don’t fall.

📅 5 November – 13 December 2026
🕛 Thu–Sun, 12–4pm
📍 @paradiseworks_
🎟️ FREE ENTRY

Dance With Me is a new immersive exhibition by British Chinese artist Donald Shek, exploring how dance connects generations, cultures and memories.

Moving between the dance halls of first-generation migrants and the underground club culture experienced by subsequent generations, the exhibition explores dance as a shared language — a way of finding connection, belonging and emotional release.

Weaving moving images into a dreamlike digital tapestry alongside sound and sculpture, Dance With Me brings memory, nostalgia and the present together, inviting audiences to reflect on how we remember, connect and find belonging through movement.

🔗 Find out more via the link in bio.

Co-commissioned by Paradise Works @paradiseworks_ and Film and Video Umbrella @filmvidumbrella following Donald Shek’s first-prize win at It’s Paradise Up North 2025.

Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. @aceagrams

✨ New Episode Alert! ✨

Unbelievably this is episode #30 of The Grateful Web Art Podcast and I’m so pleased it’s with the very lovely artist Jez Dolan. Super big thanks to everyone who has supported the podcast up to this point and a quick reminder that if you’re a regular listener please do consider signing up to my Patreon page to help me keep it going (link in bio).

Jez is an artist living and working here in Manchester, and his practice explores the intersections between queerness, sexuality, identity and memory. He works across drawing, film, performance, printmaking and painting, and over the years his work has been exhibited widely across the UK and internationally. His work is held in numerous collections, including the British Museum, Manchester Art Gallery, the Government Art Collection, Bury Art Museum, the Leslie-Lohman Museum in New York, Soho House, the Schwules* Museum in Berlin and the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, among others.

Jez was the first artist-in-residence at Manchester Art Gallery for the major exhibition Derek Jarman Protest! in 2021–22, and he’s the artistic director of IAP:MCR, the Manchester-based arts and heritage organisation presenting work across visual and performing arts by artists who identify as queer.

He has recently curated the exhibition Re/Assemble, currently on at the People’s History Museum Manchester until 3 January 2027. The exhibition features specially commissioned artworks responding to the legacy of Section 28, exploring themes of protest and resilience, celebrating queer voices and creativity. These works are displayed alongside historic and contemporary artefacts from People’s History Museum’s collection, including protest banners and objects.

Jez also plays double bass with Manchester-based art-folk troupe Sherpa-K who are performing this Friday, 25 September 2026 alongside the exhibition at the People’s History Museum.

Introducing our 2026/27 Haworth Trust awardees 🎉

We’re delighted to welcome Gwen SenHui Chen, Liz Llewelyn and Rio Darwin as this year’s Haworth Trust artists at Paradise Works.

Over the next year, each artist will receive a free studio at Paradise Works, a materials budget and mentoring and support to develop their practice, culminating in a group exhibition in 2027.

Swipe to meet Gwen, Liz and Rio and find out a little more about their work →

The Haworth Trust Scholarships are delivered in collaboration with The Haworth Trust.

#paradiseworks #haworthtrust #artistopportunity #manchesterartists #contemporaryart

Gwen SenHui Chen has a multidisciplinary practice spanning immersive installations and situational works, bringing together tactile sculpture, found objects, ceramics, textiles, drawing, sound and video.

Centred around lived experience, Gwen creates layered environments that invite subjective engagement and blur the boundaries between art and everyday life.

Liz Llewelyn works primarily across sculpture, woodwork and photography, creating within and through natural environments and bringing the outside in.

Finding solace and regulation in nature, their practice encourages audiences to slow down, listen to the trees and press themselves against the stones.

Rio Darwin is a visual artist based in the North West who pushes the boundaries of clay as a sculptural medium.

Rooted in the shifting landscapes of the Holderness Coast, Rio’s work explores what it means to exist upon an ever-changing landscape, creating sculptures that hold the tension between vulnerability and resilience. taken in Paradise Works by @paradiseworks_
