Howdy Partners!

We kicked off our Balik Bayan programme on 4 July, with the UK theatrical premiere of Yellow Rose.

It was an absolute stomper of a screening:

🎤 We had a special introduction from Aileen de la Cruz of ESEA Music
🎻 A heartfelt and moving performance by @muri.music
🍿 The film followed by an in-person Q&A with writer-director Diane Paragas in conversation with Paris Zarcilla

Thanks to Ray Roberts we can share highlights from that special afternoon.

🎟️ We still have tickets to our regional screenings of Yellow Rose - MCR is currently SOLD OUT but there is still room at the inn: in GLASGOW on 8 July and at BIRMINGHAM on 17 July!

Tickets in the MilkTea bio!

What is the true cost of the American Dream? 💛🌹

In our first featured essay for BALIK BAYAN, Scottish-Filipino writer Iana Murray (@iana.murray) unpacks the poignant storytelling of Diane Paragas’ Yellow Rose (2019) and the evolution of contemporary Filipino cinema. Murray explores the film’s use of country music to channel the complex reality of the diaspora and of the modern American Dream, placing it alongside contemporaries like Lingua Franca (2019) and Raging Grace (2023).

Swipe through for everything you need to know before you see YELLOW ROSE on the big screen – from the film's careful exploration of 'perennial unease' to the experience of being caught between cultures, identities, and dreams.

Iana Murray is a Scottish-Filipina writer based in London covering film, music, and culture. Her work features in GQ, The Face, i-D, and more, with profiles including Charles Melton, Greta Lee, and Javier Bardem.

🎟️ Tickets are still available for our London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Glasgow Screenings. Head to the link in the MilkTea bio to book your seats! by @paragasdiane

Ranking PTAs filmography. The fact that this was so hard (basically top 6 interchangeable) shows his mastery. I was surprised how high @onebattleafteranothermovie ranked as i was able to see a second time. His most accessible film but certainly one of his most entertaining. This list reflects my own personal experience with these films. While some films might rank higher technically these are the films that shook me to my core the most do you agree? Please share your won rankings (you film geeks!) by @paragasdiane
