Scenic Designer Milo Bue gives us a preview of the bold, larger-than-life design bringing North Shore High to the Paramount stage in a world that’s bigger, brighter, and more pink than ever.

“Mean Girls is a story that most of us know and love about friendship, popularity, power and being true to yourself. While both movie adaptations live in a more grounded and realistic world, we felt it was appropriate to amplify the world for our production. Pushing the story telling of the show into a more heightened world gives us fresh new takes on a familiar story while still honoring some classic moments from the original film on a larger scale.

Living in a loud pink world allows us to move away from reality and deeper into the lives of these high school students whose battle for a place on the popularity food chain feels like life or death. That paired with an excess of materialism leads us to a group of characters who are lost in a world of over consumption and are left feeling inauthentic.

Throughout the show Cady is pushed and pulled from her grounded roots into something that is distorted from her original self. She is in awe of this new world that changes her into something she isn’t. It was important to us that the set for Mean Girls reflects her journey, a place just beyond reality encompassing everything Cady always thought she wanted.”
