Insecurity and Band.itry will be gone When Parenting Institutions Are Fixed. If there is any of my weekly paper presentations that has stretched my capacity to study more is my article series on Nigeria's missing security strategy. A series I started two weeks ago. Over the past decade, Nigeria has allocated over ₦26 trillion to defence and security. Yet banditry, kidnapping, and insurgency have only intensified. Why? Because we have been fighting the load while ignoring the wobbled leg beneath it. 'Amúkùún ẹrù ẹ wọ, óní t'òkè lẹrí ẹ ò rí tìsàlè" we continue to fix the head while the leg is already wobbled. The "leg" is the Nigerian family; fractured, unstable, and unsupported. Ban.dits and insurgents are not born; they are made in homes where neglect, trau.ma, and instability are the only inheritance. On Sunday, July 26, 2027, this publication entitled; Cradle of Insecurity: Why National Parenting Institutions Are Nigeria's Missing Security Strategy. I continue to explore how national parenting institutions can become Nigeria's most cost-effective countermeasure against insecurity. What to expect in this series: 1. Comparative analysis of 5 nations—Brazil, Malaysia, Qatar, Jamaica, and Türkiye—that have institutionalised parenting as national security policy. 2. Empirical data on what works: Brazil's violence reduction, Malaysia's scalable preschool model, Qatar's permanent institutional framework. 3. Pitfalls Nigeria must avoid to escape the "copy-paste" trap; from ignoring our ethnoreligious diversity to neglecting structural implementation capacity. 4. A culturally grounded, federal-compatible pathway forward—rooted in Yoruba wisdom, indigenous knowledge systems, and Nigeria's lived realities. The core thesis is Investing in parenting institutions is not charity. It is proactive security infrastructure, cheaper than fighter jets and more sustainable than military operations. Be kind to every child you see. Be a father to a child around you. Provide what you can in your capacity. That single act of kindness can turn society for good. Fathers are nation builders. Huge responsibility is thrust upon them. At the burial of my uncle; the first man who demonstrated to me WHO A FATHER IS, last week, there was a torrent of testimonies. Family members, nephews, and neighbours all spoke. But one story struck me deeply. My uncle was an embodiment of community parenting. His doors were always open. Boys in the Omisore family – nephews, cousins, and relatives – found shelter in his house. He took in boys during their teenage years, when they were most vulnerable. I can count about 35 to 40 boys, including myself, who passed through his home. Many of us could have ended up on the streets as urchins if he had not been magnanimous. But he flung his doors open. He provided a safe haven. He gave us not just a roof, but also direction, values, and a sense of belonging. That is the heart of community parenting. It is the understanding that every child is our child. It is the refusal to say: "Not my child, not my problem." My uncle did not just raise his own children. He raised a generation. Many of us who passed through his home are now fathers, professionals, and contributors to society. One single man. One open door. Thirty to forty lives changed. Imagine if every father did the same. Imagine the ripple effect. What This Means for Fathers: Your influence is not limited to your biological children. There are children in your neighbourhood, your faith centers, your extended family who need a father figure. · Open your space. It does not have to be elaborate. A listening ear. Yet, the legs—the fragile, fractured, and emotionally starved homes from which these young gunmen emerge—remain utterly ignored. We interrogate the ammunition supplier, but we refuse to interrogate the childhood that produced the triggerman. I conclude this paper series Part III, by synthesizing lessons from the Nigerian nationalists I personally interacted with: Those whose autobiographies and documented interviews provided rare glimpses into their childhoods—alongside the childhood experiences series of over 400 eminent individuals from America and Europe, as documented in the classic book Cradles of Eminence by Victor Goertzel, Mildred George Goertzel, and Ariel M. Africa has what it takes to cradle eminence in our children. African homes must raise children who are proud of their heritage, grounded in their culture, and equipped to export Africa's resources and ideas to the world..... The Nigerian nationalists I interviewed embodied this principle. They spoke of parents who taught them the history of their people, the meaning of their names, the significance of their traditions, and the dignity of their culture. They were raised to see themselves not as poor Africans needing to be saved but as rich inheritors of ancient civilizations needing to be shared.
