New York is probably at the top of my list of cities for street photography and street portraits. It has this strange mix of clichés we all know from movies, photography and social media, and yet something incredibly authentic.
Despite the gentrification and everything else that has changed the city, there are still so many places and people that catch your eye. People who look like they’re trying to be something, except they’re not really trying at all. That’s simply who they are.

When you cross paths with such a person, the camera legitimizes this very brief relationship: you introduce yourself, show your work, explain what caught your attention and what you’d like to do. And if they say yes, you suddenly have a few minutes to try to capture whatever it was that made you notice them in the first place.

So when I was walking through Chinatown, I saw this guy standing outside in an alley. Impeccably dressed, incredible style, cool sunglasses, lighting his pipe. Everything about him, the clothes, the gestures, the setting, felt perfectly curated.

I didn’t want to steal the picture from across the street with a long lens. I wanted access to his world for a moment.

So I asked if I could photograph him, and he was kind enough to give me that.

And I think this turned into one of my favorite sets I’ve shot in a very long time. The colors, the light, his clothes, the little details, everything came together.

Apparently, posting this many photos of the same person in one carousel is overkill.

But I don’t care.

The set is too good not to.

We decided to skip the landmarks and stay around them instead.
Then Hadar and Matthew told me they didn’t know how to pose, so I didn’t ask them to.

And honestly, I don’t think they needed me to.

Those Instagram accounts are my professional portfolio, but they are also, in some strange way, my journal.

I’m not very good at playing the social media game. I don’t post that much, even though I’m a photographer, because I overthink it.
But this is something I feel I want to share.

In early February, my father passed away unexpectedly. I had planned to visit him two weeks later, but instead I never got to say a proper goodbye.
And I feel guilty, because in the last few years, since we didn’t live in the same country, I didn’t visit as much as I wish I had.

Distance has a strange way of changing things. Some arguments, some ordinary conversations, begin to read differently when they don’t happen face to face, when there is no small smile, no little gesture to soften the tension. Still, it was always a special and loving relationship. Even when we were angry at each other, we said “I love you” and “I miss you,” and we meant it.

It has been three months, and I can still hear his voice and see his face. There are so many moments when some small ordinary thing happens, and I want to text him or call him just to share it, but every single time the same sad realization arrives a second later: I can’t. He is not here anymore.

I wanted to share one of those memories here, but when I looked for a nice photo, the old saying “the cobbler’s children have no shoes” couldn’t have felt more true. As a photographer, I have so many photos of clients and strangers I meet on the street who allow me to take their portraits, but not many proper ones of my dad. Mostly phone photos.
When I was planning to visit, I told myself that next time I saw him, I would take a real portrait of him. But I never got the chance, and now I never will.
And still, I love these photos. Here he is holding my daughter when she was one month old, and I am holding them both. Three generations together.
I would give a year of my life to have one more moment with him, if I could.
I know I’m not the only one who has lost someone they love. But this is my own sadness, my own small chapter that ended too soon. I wanted to share it here in this journal, and say that I miss you dad. by @parisian_scenes

We were lucky enough to see Paris covered in snow once again.
I wandered as much as I could and caught a few moments.
There’s also a small Before Sunrise homage, because senseless love is everything.

Tips for a romantic photoshoot in Paris:
1. Make a mood board on Pinterest.
2. Save photos on Instagram.
3. Choose exact outfits for each location.
4. Decide when the “natural moments” should happen.

Or forget all of that.
Kiss. Don’t think. Have fun.
And trust your photographer.

During the last summer my good friend Moshe Rosenthal came to Paris to finish the post-production of his feature film. While he was here we found ourselves in one of those long, open conversations that happen only when someone you care about is in the middle of creating something meaningful. At some point I suggested we record an interview, not for a project or a platform, simply because it felt worth capturing. I wanted to hear him reflect on the film and on the path that brought him there.
While we were walking and filming around Paris I also took a few photos of him that day. One of them was captured during our last moments together before he left the city. At the time I wasn’t sure what place these images would have.
Then last night I saw his announcement that his new feature, Tell Me Everything, was accepted to Sundance. I genuinely felt happy for him and for everyone who worked on this film, and I hope this is only the beginning of something extraordinary as the film finds its audience.

So here are some of those photos of Moshe that he liked. I kept them horizontal because cinema deserves to be seen that way.

Congratulations to you and your crew my dear friend.
