It is with a heavy heart that today we had to say goodbye to our beloved white cat Arthur 😿

We got you from the Cats Protection about 6 years ago, and from your timid beginnings with us, you really developed into quite a little character. Joining us when watching movies, hankering after food you shouldn't be having, and just being entertaining with your silly little poses - now and again wearing your makeshift cravat we made for you to stop pulling your fur out (dermatitis 'n all that).

There we too many pictures to choose from in the phone gallery (so photogenic 📸) but here are a few highlights in memory of the lil' white fluff bomb.

Love you always, our majestic king 🤍

The cold and darkness of Winter still lingers into January, and a good opportunity as any to talk about a new Doom Metal discovery from last year that I didn’t get a chance to post about, regarding the vinyl specifically (of Translucent Sea Blue colourization).

Labyrinthine is the second studio album from LA female trio @faetooth and admittedly I hadn’t heard of the band prior to this new release last September. I reckon the algorithm must have pushed it my way, but sometimes these things play out well - and boy, does it play heavy!

I mentioned before that this is Doom Metal music, but it’s a bit more niche than that. Other terms like ‘Fairy Doom’ or ‘Doomgaze’ have been thrown around to describe the sound they bring, and I can certainly see where they’re coming from in terms of categorising- certainly a bit of Sludge Metal in some aspects. A personal observation on my part is that in the less screamy sections of songs, the reverbed vocals and slowed tempo lends similarities to Ethel Cain instrumentation with a track such as Tempest - just backed with more heavily distorted guitars and drums. As a big fan of her and of course Black Sabbath, this ticks many boxes for a music experience I didn’t realise I desired - but here we are!

Much like the ancient myth of the minotaur in the labyrinth, Labyrinthine is a winding, mysterious monster of an album. From siren song melodies to guttural shrieks, Faetooth’s music conjures a looming atmosphere that offers but a glimpse into their maze-like realm. One that I’m glad I took the venture into late last year, and into the future for certain.

A spooky season kind of record on the turntable, and of one of my favourite bands 🤘 I already own a version of Black Sabbath as part of the Ten Year War boxset, but I came across this Rhino high fidelity pressing for sale on Vinted, and for it being a favourite of mine I couldn't pass on it.

It sounds absolutely incredible, and as it's an American pressing it has the tracklist of the US version (ie no Evil Woman)

Seen this @my9albums trend going around, thought I'd have a crack at it. Turns out it was quite difficult to determine the albums that helped shape my music taste. So many possibilities, but I narrowed it down to these fantastic releases 😌🎶

Audrey Hobart - Who’s the Clown?

@audreyhobert is an artist I didn’t really pay attention to last year, (and has certainly been getting a lot of attention on the socials of recent) but this debut is actually full of really catchy pop songs 🎵

In terms of tracks, my favourite ones are Drive, Chateau and Thirst Trap. Let me know yours in the comments!

The @bloodrecs releases, are always very limited and always in high demand. I was quite fortunate to find this one on eBay - though there was a funny incident with purchasing this vinyl...

As mentioned, I ordered from an eBay seller for this Blood Records pressing, and when I opened the package, they had somehow sent me the Blood Records edition of She & Him Vol. 1. As pretty as that pressing was, it wasn’t what I ordered, but I managed to get the LP after sending back, as well as a full refund - so a free vinyl in the end 🙌

The pressing itself is a really nice splatter of pink, white and yellow on a clear pressing. Maybe not the most outstanding for Blood Records, but I feel it matches the colours of the album cover.

Incidentally, we also have an album reaction video up on our YouTube channel, where Sophie is experiencing it for the first time. Appreciate it if you go check it out in the link below, or the bio:

City of Evil by @avengedsevenfold is one of my favourite metal albums during my transition into metal music discovery in my school days. Filled with lengthy tracks of awesome riffs, distinct vocals from lead man M Shadows, and in some cases orchestral/cinematic moments that really elevate the album.

I used to have a standard black pressing when I first started vinyl collecting, but as its one I enjoy, I thought I would get a nice colour pressing to try match the energy of the cover. When I saw this Eruption Blend variation in the wild at @towerrecordsdublin I knew I had to have it 🔥

Favourite tracks are Strength of the World, Trashed and Scattered, and Burn It Down. Let me know your favourites in the comments below!

Pogo Rodeo is another album from Psychedelic Porn Crumpets that came out last year, along with Carpe Diem Moonman. It's got the silly plasticine artwork again, a lovely Galaxy Pink marble pressing, and more sprawling psych-pop pop rock goodness 🙌🎵

Alice In Chains: MTV Unplugged has now gotten a vinyl reissue, courtesy of @revolvermag

When I was away on holiday in July, I saw this pop up on my Instagram timeline, and I never preordered so fast, as I was certain this would sell out fast. I went with the Ruby Red pressing, which is very striking and a very addition to the @aliceinchains vinyl collection ♥️
