Love the trailer? Now you can watch the full film online! Link to Vimeo in @surfersforclimate bio. Comment ‘bigger’ to join the movement. Thanks to the remarkable crew of filmmakers, surfers, locals and politicians who came together to share their passion for the Great Australian Bight and make this project happen. We still want World Heritage for the Great Australian Bight, but that process can take a long time. Right now, there’s an opportunity to rezone the Great Australian Bight Marine Park, and it gets decided soon, by the people who run our marine parks and our own Environment Minister. It would shut the door on Big Oil while we wait for World Heritage. What we’re asking for is easy on paper. Take the existing zone that bans mining outright (currently protecting the whale nursery) and extend it over the water where the old drilling permits sat. It’s one change inside a review that’s already happening, and if you fish out there, recreationally or commercially, none of this affects you. The only thing it stops is drilling. For the first time in 10 years, the government’s taking public submissions for this review, but they close on 30 September. The survey only takes 2 minutes, and it counts as your own submission, which we’ll deliver to the minister. Music, Strange Hours by @russell_w_ by @parklands.tv
Anyone who’s been to this place, knows how special it is, especially surfers. But enough rambling from us. Here’s @craig__anderson @davewinchester and @belindabaggs to explain. We still want World Heritage for the Great Australian Bight, but that process can take decades. Right now, there’s an opportunity to rezone the Great Australian Bight Marine Park, and it gets decided here. One change inside a review that’s already happening, and if you fish out there, none of this affects you. The only thing it stops is Big Oil. Submissions close on 30 September. This is an excerpt from ‘Kelp Keeper’ featuring @loyiso.dunga, a remarkable Marine Biologist and conservationist from Khayelitsha on the southern tip of Africa. Thank you for your wisdom, for welcoming us into your family, and for the energy you bring to everyone around you. The work Loyiso is doing to protect the Great African Sea Forest while bringing together community and culture is incredible. It was truly inspiring to create this documentary together. We’re stoked to launch the trailer for “Final Fight for the Bight: Legacy” a brand new doco narrated by Simon Baker and shot across Mirning Country, the Nullarbor and the Great Australian Bight.
This film dives into the people, wildlife, and coastline that sparked one of the biggest ocean protection movements in Australia’s history, and explores why the Bight needs permanent UNESCO World Heritage protection.
We’re aiming for a 2026 release for the feature film, but today you get a world-exclusive sneak peek.

Even better, watch the full trailer on our website and sign the petition (link in bio) to help preserve this iconic coastline forever.

Let’s make history 🤙🏻
