Today Klaus left this world. When @burgair and I went to the adoption center, Klaus jumped onto the fence closest to us as if to say “take me with you.” A moment later, Violet followed him over to say hi and we knew they had chosen us. When we brought Klaus and Violet home Klaus said “step up” as soon as I opened his carrying cage. His favorite song was “If you’re happy and you know it,” and he would bob his head when I whistled it to him in the mornings. On the day Violet laid her first egg which didn’t immediately roll off a shelf and break, Klaus sang that song for 5 solid minutes, the longest I’ve ever heard him sing. That egg, which was joined by a second under the fireplace, hatched into Arni and Ruby. Klaus was by far the most polite AND the biggest troublemaker of the bunch. An idealist and optimist, he saw every place as a potential nest. He loved his family and dreamed of filling the apartment with birds. He tried his best to do so. Klaus will be dearly missed. by @parrot_whispering

6 months ago we adopted Violet and Klaus from @tierschutzberlin and they are fully fledged family members now 💗 Violet isn’t afraid of hands and fingers anymore, and Klaus isn’t afraid of veggies anymore 🥗🥦🥬 They are both now trained to eat pellets for nutritional variance and to go into their backpack on their own to have adventures in the wild of Berlin!Raising birds with mysterious pasts is a process of slow incremental changes, but little by little they are becoming happier and healthier (and bolder, and naughtier) than ever before!
