🌈 RIP BILLY 🌈

Billy came to us in April when his person was evicted from their home and had to go to live in the NYC shelter system.

Billy had two younger cat siblings who had a chance at being adopted. But, at 18 yo with advancing kidney disease, Billy's future was uncertain. It was clear that he was not going to thrive in a shelter.

Fospice is not something one does alone - it is a team sport, and my teammates @bideawee went above and beyond in providing all of the essentials and medical care that were critical to Billy's fospice stay.

In the short time he was with us, Billy never let us forget when it was mealtime. Nor snack time.

I'll forever cherish the very early summer mornings we spent having tea and treats together. The younger ones like to sleep in, but Billy and I would savour the quiet and stillness of the predawn day.

Billy was a stately, elderly gentleman cat who was set in his ways, and sometimes his ways were not quite we expected. Yet! He was never wrong. #iykyk

What Billy possessed in abundance was his ability to connect. He loved sharing his spot in the sun with his newfound siblings - Pebble and Doki.

He also liked to connect with me, either by laying down beside me with his chin resting in my hand, or headbutting my feet while I practiced guitar.

Billy had been in decline for a couple of weeks. At 5:40 pm on Thursday, October 23, Billy rested his chin in my hand one final time. 🌈

Welcome Billy!

Through no fault of his own Billy (age 18) lost his home and his person, and has come to fill the position left vacant by Rachi.

Billy has already shown us that he is a master biscuit maker, a connoisseur of fine catnip, enjoys being brushed and knows how to set healthy boundaries with the younger residents - Doki and Pebble.

We don’t know much more about Billy, but we’re willing to learn all he cares to share.

🌈🌈🌈RIP Rachi 🌈🌈🌈

It is with a very heavy heart that we say farewell to Rachi (aka Rachachacha).

Rachi came to us as a fospice when his owner died. Although Rachi had his own medical issues they were well-managed ... until they were not.

He was the sweetest, softest, silliest little panther-like feline with a decidedly princely demeanour.
Rachi would wait patiently at mealtime until he was served, and would express his appreciation with fulsome purrs and head bumps.

Rachi had an impressive vocabulary of tonal meows and melismas. He would supervise guitar practice with a steady and steely glare that registered anywhere between disdain and approval depending on the day. Thus, earning him the moniker "General Rachi" - practice was either generally good or generally bad.

It's an understatement to say that he 'won' our hearts ... he will be lovingly missed and never forgotten.

Rachi - look ahead over the rainbow bridge, I'm sure that's Karmi-D giving you the side eye!

Rest well, sweet prince, and know that your bowl will always be filled with tuna.
