Five years with my darling @lauren_murada today. Not even Dolly could overshadow this date for us. Love you, baby 😘 by @partydad

Okay Brooklyn, I’m leaving the Cheerwine Zone and headed back to RizzlerBerry Territory just in time for a pair of groovy gigs this week in Williamsburg!

I’ll be at @no9nyc on Wednesday for those in need of a mid-week boogie, on the early side so you can still get to bed at a decent hour. RSVP link in bio!

Then on Friday it’s one for the night owls with @persona_la_ave at @mezcaleriamilagrosa! As is Mila custom, we’re starting at 11 and going nice and late! Disco nap not required but certainly recommended. by @partydad

Big thumbs up 👍 to the party people of Charlotte for a super fun weekend! I had the best time hanging with old friends, eating some old faves, and helping people express themselves. Til next time! by @partydad

Chopping it up in Charlotte this weekend! It’ll be nice to play a few gigs in my former place of residence. Hoping to see plenty of familiar faces! Here’s where to catch me:

Friday, I’m spinning some of my fave fusion groovers on the lovely system at @stylussoundlounge starting at 9pm.

Saturday it’s a BBQ affair in @mitchelllicare’s excellent back yard, with some other friends jumping on the decks as the night progresses. Bring some cash donations too for a great cause!

And then I’m psyched to spin a guest set at CLT’s legendary day party Hazy Sunday with @probably_will and @djrayhasmusic at @petrasbar! by @partydad

Cosmic Jazz Fusion
Friday • July 31st • 9pm - 12am
Host Selector: Party Dad
@partydad | NYC DJ

Party Dad is a DJ with roots in the Carolinas, where he helped carry the rare groove torch in the Charleston and Charlotte dance scenes for over a decade before relocating north.

Now based in Brooklyn, he’s spent the last several years digging into the rich NYC club scene, expanding his sound and honing his craft behind the decks of some of the city’s best night spots. He currently holds residencies at @goodbarbk
and @cafebalearica, and co-curates a biweekly radio show, Body Shop, on the
@rovr_live platform with his partner @lauren_murada

What brings him to Stylus?
“I like to cover a lot of musical ground as a DJ, and using multiple media formats kinda comes with the territory there. I’m really into how Stylus celebrates that aspect of appreciation and curation. You can find and share great tunes in so many ways both digital and analog, and I’ve always found that aspect of loving music to be really neat.”

What’s inspiring him right now?
“Lately I’ve been finding a lot of joy in digging up dance records from the early 90s when samplers started to get more affordable and producers were making all these crazy hypnotic club tracks that stack a bunch 1- and 2-bar jazz and disco loops all the way up to heaven. Pure, simple, effective party jams, just the best!

Outside of dance music, I’ve also been super into this new crop of indie/lo-fi bands coming out of the midwest like
@hallogalloinc and @goodflyingbirds Those kids give me so much hope.”

What’s he bringing to the lounge?
“There’s a LOT of places where jazz culture and dance culture rub up against each other, so I’m planning my set with that fact in mind, focusing particularly on the fusion era of the 70s and 80s when things got very funky and synthy in both of those worlds, and there was a ton of crossover.”

Do you like your music…smooooooth? You’re in luck! This Wednesday I’m back at @goodbarbk to Wax The Van with my softest, grooviest chamois. Get ready for five solid hours of obscure AOR, sun-kissed yacht-funk, and classic dad jams (plus a bonus warm-up hour Tuesday afternoon on @thelotradio!) Those close to me know I cherish this music dearly, but this will be my first time playing this kind of set since I moved to NYC, so I’m extra-jazzed for this one. Come through! taken in Good Bar by @partydad
