You may have noticed that Pasadena has a lot of transportation projects in process right now. City staff are doing community outreach for them in waves; this past spring, we had the opportunity to comment on the Greenways, for example. Next up is the Active Transportation Plan (ATP), which will shape what street infrastructure projects are prioritized in the next 5-10 years.

We hope it will set out a blueprint for a safer, more connected transportation network for walking, biking and connecting to transit, but we need to push for that! Read more about the plan at bit.ly/PasadenaATP.

We anticipate opposition in Pasadena to elements of the proposed Plan (based on comments from the Greenways process).

Pasadena is celebrating Walktober with a month-long celebration of walking, public health, and community engagement with free activities across the city. The City of Pasadena Department of Transportation in partnership with Day One and the Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition (PasCSC) invites all of Pasadena to get out and WALK in October! Now in its ninth year in Pasadena, Walktober was launched locally by the PasCSC and community partners. This year, the City is sponsoring all Walktober events.

Walktober is an annual international promotion to encourage walking. Communities across the world organize fun events bringing awareness to walking.

The City in collaboration with Day One, and PasCSC have partnered with local organizations and community members to put together a month-long calendar of in-person walks, tours, and community events.

The City of Pasadena Planning Department’s comprehensive community outreach and engagement effort to support the development of the City’s first Environmental Justice (EJ) Element is underway.

The EJ Element will identify and address environmental burdens and inequities in Pasadena while elevating community priorities related to health, air quality, safe and accessible neighborhoods, climate resilience, and equitable access to parks, mobility, and public services.

**Two new Greenways opportunities!**

The City of Pasadena is continuing development of the Greenways Project, an initiative to create calmer streets for residents and enhance connectivity and safety while walking, biking, and rolling. These enhancements aim to maintain neighborhood access, reduce speeding, and make it more comfortable to walk, bike, and roll. Planned along key north-south corridors that provide important connections to existing active transportation networks, the Greenways will help bridge the 210 Freeway barrier by connecting neighborhoods to transit, schools, and businesses.

As part of the design process, the City is installing a “Quick-build” project on Craig Ave., which will include temporary, easily installed safety features. This demonstration will allow community members to experience and engage with potential improvements and share feedback on what features could be permanently installed along Craig Ave.
The City hosted opportunities in June to engage with the project team and provide feedback on the Greenways Project. To continue collecting feedback and learning about the Project, two new meetings have
been added on July 27 and July 29.

Yesterday, more than 70 riders rolled out for the Annual Ice Cream Ride hosted by the Pasadena Department of Transportation, DayOne, and Complete Streets Coalition! 🚲🍦

The route included local favorites, including SLIDERS, one of the newest additions to District 2’s growing local business community. A big thank you to owners Josh and Sam for the warm welcome and tasty treats!

My hope is that this spirit continues well beyond Bike Month as we keep working toward our promise of making Pasadena a city where people can safely and comfortably get around without always needing a car.
