Le 23 juin dernier, j'ai reçu à New York avec beaucoup d'humilité et de gratitude "The Inaugural Haitian Women's Collective "Ayisyen” Award".
Je remercie "The Haitian Women's Collective" pour cet honneur.
J'ai fait le choix de porter une robe sur laquelle j'ai écrit les noms des quartiers de Port-au-Prince où des milliers de mes sœurs et frères ont été massacrés et continuent de l'être chaque jour, où des femmes et des filles sont violées, abusées et maltraitées, où des vies ont été détruites chaque jour : La Saline, Cité Soleil, Martissant, La Plaine, Delmas 32, Carrefour Feuilles. Des vies haïtiennes sont détruites en Haïti, aux États-Unis, dans les forêts d'Amérique centrale et d'Amérique du Sud, dans la mer des Caraïbes, partout dans le monde pour satisfaire la soif d'argent, de pouvoir et de privilèges d'un petit groupe d'individus.
Cette robe était pour rappeler que dans quelques jours, cela fera un an que ma sœur, ma camarade de combat, guerrière Antoinette Duclair a été assassinée. Et Diego. Aucune justice. Ce prix c'est pour toi, Netty!
Cette robe est pour toutes mes sœurs de NÈGÈS MAWON et mes camarades de NOU PAP DÒMI.
Le combat continue!

I was honored to receive the “2024 NALAFEM AWARDS : Access to Justice and Protection” on July 1 in Namibia during the NALAFEM SUMMIT.
I received my award from Charlotte Hill O’Neal, former member of Black Panther Party, who fled the USA in 1972 because of her fight for her people. I’m still speechless! 🙏🏾
Choosing to be a feminist activist, a political woman, to put yourself forward and take leadership is a priesthood whose price is extremely high. It is a dangerous road, solitary but at the same time carried out in sisterhood.
I dedicated this prize to all my sisters of NÈGÈS MAWON who spare no effort, who know neither day nor night, who often ignore all the dangers to follow their commitment to Women and Girls in Haiti.
To my sisters of NOU PAP DÒMI and my allied sisters who are not members of these two organizations who are on the front line beyond the risks for their lives.
To all Haitian women who do not remain silent, who do not back down, who do not negotiate the humanity and freedom of Haitian women.
To Netty Duclaire, for whom we continue to demand justice.
To all the Haitian feminist fighters who came before me, who led the fights for my freedom and who blazed the trail.
For all the black women who continue to resist everywhere in the world.
For my mother and my sister.
For all my comrades, women and men, who make this fight less lonely and easier.
For women in Haiti, Palestine, Sudan, Congo, Afghanistan. Everywhere in the world where our oppression continues.

C’est la première fois qu’une féministe haïtienne a été invitée à représenter la société civile devant le Conseil de Sécurité de l’ONU lors d’un briefing, où les Femmes Haïtiennes sont au centre des débats. Un briefing où NOUS parlons, de NOUS, pour NOUS dans une discussion globale où tous les États membres décident pour Haïti. Cette représentation est le fruit de nombreuses années de plaidoyer collectif des organisations féministes Haïtiennes pour que les Femmes Haïtiennes soient placées au cœur des politiques de sécurité, qu’elles soient incluses dans les prises de décisions à tous les niveaux, que leurs voix soient entendues dans les espaces qui décident et influencent la gouvernance et la situation dans laquelle nous vivons.
Pour moi et pour NÈGÈS MAWON, ce fut à la fois un honneur mais surtout une immense responsabilité. Mettre la lumière sur nos réalités est essentielle mais nous devons sans cesse frapper du pied pour dire que nous ne tolèrerons pas d’être mises de côté et laisser les autres décider et agir à notre place. Born to Dance. Forced to Run. follows Steeven Labady, a professional dancer — trained in Haiti, then the first Haitian graduate of the National School of Dance at the National Conservatory of Music and Performing Arts of the Dominican Republic, then Zurich, then Germany. His career has crossed as many borders as he has.

This isn’t just one man’s story. It’s a story about what it means to be forced from home, and what it takes to hold onto yourself anyway.

At a time when migrants are so often reduced to headlines and statistics, this film restores the humanity — the art, the courage, the dreams — behind the journey.
