Give the song a chance to exist before asking it to become a hit.

I grew up with guitar, piano, songs of faith, and the joy of making music together. Those roots still shape how I approach every session: listen, connect, and create.

From Max Martin and David Foster to Diane Warren and Burt Bacharach, I find inspiration in the craft of turning life's experiences into songs that people feel. Different voices. Different approaches. Always something to learn.

Knowing your craft matters. So does protecting the joy that brought you to music in the first place. When the pressure gets loud, return to the song, the people in the room, and the freedom to try.

What helps you reconnect with the joy of making music?

Iedere release maakt me trots.

From a topline to 9 million streams.

For me, the story behind “You Should Know” started with a topline I worked on with @craigsmartmusic and @demetrijamesmusic . The melody, the lyrics and the feeling at the heart of the song.

That is what I listen for. Does it move you without a big production? Does it hold up with just a piano? Then there is something to build on.

@stijnkouwenhoven and I also worked on the track, bringing our ideas together and listening for what made it stronger. We wanted to find what people would feel when they heard it.

That topline helped get Sam Feldt interested in the track. Fedde Le Grand became involved during the process, and the project grew through everyone’s contribution.

The result: “You Should Know” by Sam Feldt & Fedde Le Grand, featuring Craig Smart. Now at 9 million streams.

I’m proud of the number. I’m just as proud of the work and the people behind it.

When you write a topline, you don’t know how many people will hear it. You start by making something together that you believe in.

Nine million streams later, you look back at that first idea differently.

Swipe through for the story behind the release.

There are a lot of unfinished songs on hard drives. I’ve seen it happen: another idea, another session, another promising track that never gets finished.

For me, being a publisher means helping writers build new repertoire and bring out their best. Good administration matters. So does spending time on the music and the people making it.

I spent years as a producer, working alongside other producers and artists. Some of those releases earned gold records. I’m proud of what we made together, and those years in the studio still shape the way I work with talent.

The best sessions give everyone room to contribute. Put the egos aside, listen to each other and focus on what the song needs.

One artist I worked with grew from around 2,000 listeners to 1 million. A deal in Germany followed, and later she signed with Universal Music. She put in the hours. We invested in her development and got her into sessions with strong writers and producers, at home and abroad.

That is what I believe in: learning your craft, building confidence and finishing the music you believe in.

Swipe through for more of my perspective on developing talent.

I’d love to meet artists, songwriters and young entrepreneurs during ADE. Through PSG Music Publishing and Network Deal Hub, there are different ways to explore your next step, including opportunities beyond a publishing deal.

Send me a DM if you’d like to meet. You can also request a 20-minute conversation at ade.psgmusicpublishing.org. I’ll personally confirm the time and meeting point.

Happy to have been invited to join the Meet the Publishers session as a music publishing professional during Amsterdam Dance Event!
There’s so much to exchange in publishing, especially when it comes to developing talent, helping songwriters grow and connecting people whose strengths complement each other. I’ve always believed in bringing the right mix of people into one room.
Signing songs is only the beginning. Accurate registrations, reliable administration and making sure royalties reach the right people are essential parts of the work.
I’m looking forward to exchanging ideas about the creative and business sides of publishing, including international administration and sub-publishing partnerships. From publishers with offices around the world to independents with strong international networks, there’s plenty to learn from each other.
Excited to meet good people, share experiences and enjoy the receptions and parties along the way. Thank you for the invitations!

Toch ook weer zo’n legendarische man: Erik Kross.

I’ve always made my biggest tracks out of passion, without expectations. Two tracks we created in a living room went on to reach 50 million streams. We never went into those sessions expecting that. Sometimes, it’s about timing, having the right people around an artist, and creating an environment where that artist feels supported, excited and inspired.
I’m 48 now, and I’ve seen a lot in the music business. Some people may find me difficult at times, but through all the ups and downs, my passion has almost never faded. by @pascalnanlohy

Your little hand rests on mine, and in that simple touch, I feel everything it means to be your father.

One day, your hand will grow. You’ll find your own path and reach for dreams of your own. Wherever that path takes you, my hand will always be there when you need it.

For now, let me hold on to this moment a little longer.

Father and son. Forever connected. 🤎 by @pascalnanlohy
