The Sound of Lights When Dim [20th Anniversary Edition]
Slow Dancing Society
180g Vinyl / Deluxe Longbox / Digital
PITP85

We are excited to celebrate twenty years of The Sound Of Lights When Dim, a remarkable opening statement from Drew Sullivan’s Slow Dancing Society (@slowdancingsociety).

Originally released in 2006, the eight-track album established a musical language that Sullivan would continue to explore and refine over the next two decades: slowly unfolding electronics, treated guitar, subtle rhythmic movement, and melodies shaped less by conventional structures than by memory, atmosphere, and emotion.

In celebration of its twentieth anniversary, this expanded edition revisits the album through a collection of remixes of all eight original compositions, featuring contributions from awakened souls (@awakenedsoulsmusic), zakè (@zake_drone), Polar Moon (@jonnyradtke / @polarmoonmusic), anthéne (@polarseasrecordings), From Overseas (@fromoverseas.music), City of Dawn (@cityofdawnband), and Slow Dancing Society.

Twenty years later, The Sound Of Lights When Dim remains as evocative and enduring as ever, a testament to the timeless qualities of Sullivan’s work and the lasting resonance of this extraordinary debut.

UK based Inhmost, aka Simon Huxtable (@s.huxtablemusic), returns to Past Inside the Present with a complete reinterpretation of his debut PITP release, Future Research Journal Entries (Part I) [2024], this time under his atmospheric drum & bass moniker, Aural Imbalance.

Where the original was a document of cosmic proportions, drifting through vast expanses of weightlessness, these new iterations draw upon the richly atmospheric drum & bass Huxtable has refined for well over a decade, and more recently through his consistent output with our friends at Spatial/Auxiliary (@auxiliarymusic). The result preserves the otherworldly character of the original while placing it within a more rhythmic and propulsive framework.

Much of Huxtable’s work has explored similar celestial terrain, including his collaborations with ASC (@ascaux), but Future Research holds a particular richness of vision, one in which distant worlds, deep space, and the outer reaches of the universe feel remarkably close at hand.

Written, mixed and produced by Inhmost / Aural Imbalance (Simon Huxtable). Mastered by zakè (@zake_drone). Design, photographic compositing and layout by zakè. ©℗ 2026 Past Inside the Present. This is PITP56.1 by @pastinside

Live from Camden captures The London Ambient Orchestra in a single evening of collective improvisation. Founded as a community of musicians from diverse artistic backgrounds, The London Ambient Orchestra brings together conservatory trained classical performers alongside self taught experimental artists. Improvisation serves as the ensemble’s common language, creating performances that value trust, spontaneity, and human interaction over fixed outcomes.

Across five fully improvised compositions spanning nearly an hour, the orchestra shapes a spacious landscape from strings, winds, harmonium, brass, and pedal steel guitar. Rather than relying on predetermined structures, each piece unfolds organically through careful listening and mutual response, allowing individual voices to merge into a unified ensemble.

Live from Camden stands as both a document of a singular performance and a testament to the enduring value of collective music making. At a time when much of modern life is increasingly mediated by technology and predictability, these recordings affirm the quiet power of improvisation, attentive listening, and human presence.

The London Ambient Orchestra is:

Sue In Kang, Violin
Jessica Roch, Violin
Jamie-Lee Glinsman, Viola
Jenny Sturt, Cello
Tom Rivière, Double Bass

Catriona Bourne, Flute
Emma Gerrett, Clarinet Bb/Bass Clarinet
Felix Holt, Alto Saxophone

We are incredibly honored to welcome The London Ambient Orchestra to the Past Inside the Present family! Their debut with PITP, Live from Camden, arrives this September.

Founded as a community of musicians from diverse artistic backgrounds, The London Ambient Orchestra brings together conservatory trained classical performers alongside self taught experimental artists. Improvisation serves as the ensemble’s common language, creating performances rooted in trust, spontaneity, and human interaction rather than fixed outcomes. Each performance exists only once, shaped equally by the musicians, the room, and the audience present in that moment.

Across five fully improvised compositions spanning nearly an hour, the orchestra shapes a spacious landscape from strings, winds, harmonium, pedal steel guitar, and the subtle sound of breath. Rather than relying on predetermined structures, each piece unfolds organically through careful listening and mutual response, allowing individual voices to gradually merge into a unified ensemble.

Live from Camden stands as both a document of a singular performance and a testament to the enduring value of collective music making. At a time when so much of modern life is increasingly mediated by technology and predictability, these recordings affirm the quiet power of improvisation, attentive listening, and human presence.

Before the music found its form, Tyresta (@nick__turner) emerged as a means of finding footing through life’s uncertainty. What began in 2016 as a quiet creative outlet gradually evolved into one of the defining voices within the Past Inside the Present catalog. Over the past decade, Nick Turner has crafted a body of work distinguished by emotional honesty, restraint, and a remarkable sensitivity to atmosphere.

Recorded between 2023 and 2025, Nothing Is Hidden represents a gentle yet meaningful shift in perspective. Where earlier works were born from loss and the slow work of recovery, this collection turns its gaze toward gratitude. These compositions are reflections on the enduring friendships, kindness, and love that carried Turner through his most difficult years.

Nick has been an essential part of Past Inside the Present since the label’s inception, helping shape both its sound and its identity through a catalog of deeply resonant works. We are honored to continue documenting his artistic legacy with Nothing Is Hidden, a record that stands not only as a culmination of the journey thus far, but as a beautiful reminder that, even after our darkest seasons, gratitude has a way of revealing what has been there all along.

Written, recorded, and produced by Nick Turner, featuring: Sharon Udoh (piano), Scott Rubin (viola) on All Around You. Sharon Udoh (piano), Ben Zucker (trumpet) on Eyes Wide Wandering. Patrick Shiroishi (saxophone, vocals) on Everything You Need. Leon Todd Johnson (piano) on Softly Sway.

Thank you so much to everyone who has already bought our new album.

This show took place at the start of the year on Blue Monday at the brilliant @thejazzcafe and is personally my favourite gig that we’ve played so far.

I’m so proud of the improvisations on this album and we’re so thrilled to have a remixed/reimagined track by the wonderful @zake_drone on there, too.

Thank you also to the ever-supportive @pastinside - best label out there.

A clip from ‘Ovra II’ / the show. (Track 4- about 2/3rds of the way through the track). Not on streaming services ;)

leon todd johnson (@leontoddjohnson) makes his Past Inside the Present debut with untitled, a three track collection of ambient adjacent instrumental pieces shaped by gentle guitar work, analog textures, and tactile instrumentation. Formerly recording as Airport People, the Indianapolis-based artist has spent years refining a patient, understated approach that feels both immediate and nostalgic.

Each composition balances warmth, restraint, and subtle detail. The music evokes memories that feel both forgotten and newly remembered without leaning on sentimentality, allowing its painterly arrangements and soulful depth to emerge naturally. untitled is a confident introduction to johnson’s work on Past Inside the Present and another welcome addition to the growing community of Indiana artists represented by the label, itself proudly based in Indiana.

Written, recorded, produced, arranged, mixed, and performed by Leon Todd Johnson. Instrumentation: electric guitar, bass guitar, synthesizer, orchestral sample manipulations (vibes, harp, celesta, violins, cello, marimba, flute), and Monome Norns + Arc (custom script by ltj). Field recordings captured outside his home in Indianapolis. Mastered by zakè. Cover art by Ada Johnson. Layout and design by zakè.
