Spaces shaped by Pastoe

For the new restaurant at Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden, the Netherlands, Pastoe supplied chairs, stools and bistro tables, bringing Dutch design classics into a contemporary interior.

The chairs and stools come from Cees Braakman’s Wire Series, while the tables are based on Martin Visser’s TE Series. In collaboration with our partner workshop of Wonders, the chairs and stools were specified in five custom colours, featuring earthy, nature-inspired tones that complement the interior.

Legend has it that Benno Premsela was tasked with creating an elegant interior accessory. While browsing through stock and semi-finished products, he discovered a wooden ring originally intended for a small table. By cutting a slot into it, the iconic Benno Mirror was born. Today, it stands as a true design icon.
______

Born in Magelang, Indonesia, in 1927, Kho Liang Ie brought a unique perspective to Dutch design. After moving to the Netherlands in 1949, he developed a quiet yet distinctive design language, one that balanced Eastern refinement with the clarity of modernism. Whether designing furniture, lighting or interiors, his work was always guided by a sense of harmony, functionality and human comfort. His thoughtful approach can be found in designs such as the iconic K46 Floor Lamp: a timeless object that combines elegance with purpose.

Now on view, the @stedelijkmuseum presents 𝘒𝘩𝘰 𝘓𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘦 – 𝘔𝘪𝘥-𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘺 𝘔𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘵, the first major museum retrospective dedicated to Kho Liang Ie. Featuring more than 200 objects alongside extensive archival material, the exhibition highlights every facet of his oeuvre.
______
