$On May 17, 1968, nine Catholic activists entered the draft board in Catonsville, MD, removed 378 draft files to the parking lot, doused them with homemade napalm, and set them aflame. Then the activists sang, prayed, spoke with reporters, and waited to be arrested by police. “Our apologies, good friends, for the fracture of good order," Father Daniel Berrigan told the court later. "The burning of paper instead of children, the angering of the orderlies in the front parlor of the charnel house. We could not, so help us God, do otherwise." He added: "We have chosen to be powerless criminals in a time of criminal power. We have chosen to be branded as peace criminals by war criminals." The Catonsville Nine were tried in federal court in Baltimore, found guilty of destruction of U.S. property, and sentenced to prison terms ranging from two to three-and-a-half years, totaling 18 years across the group. The Catonsville Nine inspired many other anti-draft/anti-military actions, including the D.C. 9, the Silver Spring 3, the Chicago 8, the Harrisburg 7, and the Camden 28. It is unknown how many persons were spared the draft because of these actions. How are faith leaders and people of faith today creating a new legacy of activism against war and inhumanity? Join us this Saturday, October 10, at Brooklyn Public Library for a dialogue between the Rev. Emily Brewer and the Rev. Kaji S. Douša titled TROUBLE THE WATER. Held as part of UPRISING/DOWNFALL: Repression and Resistance in the Making of Democracy, on Saturday, October 10, 7-11pm. Presented by Brooklyn Public Library and BPL Presents. Brian Tate, Guest Curator. Free RSVP at the link in the bio. Please share widely and don’t miss. by @pastorkaji$

I was thinking about overcoming fear that hasn’t actually happened yet, and this word came to me:

Simpossibility.

Simpossibility names the moment when your mind rehearses collapse before collapse arrives.

It’s your nervous system running a simulation so vivid that your body begins to live inside a future that hasn’t happened.

Your imagination, meant to serve discernment, begins to serve fear. It constructs an internal world where failure feels inevitable, loss feels settled, and limitation feels proven.

But simpossibility is still a simulation. It has texture, but not substance. It feels real, but it isn’t true.

Spiritually, simpossibility is what happens when your anticipation outruns revelation. It’s your mind attempting to stabilize uncertainty by declaring defeat before you even get started.

It’s the administrative voice speaking before the prophetic voice has had a chance to speak at all.

Naming simpossibility restores your agency. It reminds you that not everything you experience internally is evidence. Some things are forecasts written by frightened parts of ourselves.

Faith in God interrupts simpossibility by refusing to surrender to a future fear invented.

What has not happened has not happened.
And what has not happened is still open.

Beautiful prayer & grateful to see friends by @pastorkaji

TBH, I only have one Forevor Mayor, and that’s Marion Barry. But, Zohran has been my mayor since I first learned about his candidacy in February.

He was sworn in this morning and now we inaugurate him. Can’t wait to get started so that we can have a city government that truly serves the people we serve. We’re ready to put Hope into action!

Congratulations, Mayor Mamdani. May God bless your efforts and bring them worthy increase. 🙏🏽 by @pastorkaji

My heart is full, and it is heavy as I join the chorus giving thanks for the life, ministry, and anointed genius of Dr. Smallwood.

Growing up in Washington, DC, I was formed inside the sound of his music.

My heart turns to our beloved C. Anthony Bryant, who has been shaped in profound ways by Dr. Smallwood. Their relationship was marked by trust, respect, and musical kinship. Time and again, Dr. Smallwood would call on Charles to carry his the wonder of compositions, trusting his interpretation to hold both the weight and the holiness of the work. That lineage is alive among us, and we are the better for it.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory and power knowing that his music will continue to preach.
And may we who remain carry Dr. Smallwood’s sonic mastery faithfully, until all of us are gathered into that great heavenly chorus. 🙏🏽 by @pastorkaji

My parents moved into our family house in DC a few weeks after I was born. They carried these records across eight moves, from New York, to Atlanta, to Cambridge and finally DC. They are finally selling this house and moving to a smaller space. In advance of this, they gifted us with our pic of RECORDS. All we had to do was come pick them up. I built this record wall, so that I could set a playlist for the day, and make sure that I enjoy this piece of the inheritance they curated. Here’s what I’m listening to today. by @pastorkaji

I don’t even like celery like that and this is pretty incredible. Apparently inspired by four Horsemen restaurant in Brooklyn. I’ll tag the content creator who inspired me in the comments. by @pastorkaji
