Is anxiety, despair, and struggle the price of true freedom and self-awareness?

Drifting through life asleep costs nothing. People love to say "go with the flow," but only dead fish go with the flow. The current takes them wherever, zero resistance. The second you actually wake up, take real ownership of your life, and refuse to numb yourself out, the friction hits. Every choice echoes. Every compromise leaves a scar. Maybe the dread isn't some mental illness you need to medicate away, but just the vertigo of being awake and choosing to swim upstream with purpose

Suffering with no meaning is just senseless rot. It turns men bitter and cynical. But suffering you choose, with a real purpose behind it, changes everything. In ancient ascetic tradition, struggle wasn't something to bitch about or dodge. It was the only fire hot enough to burn off ego and illusion

Nietzsche said: "He who has a why to live can bear almost any how."

If voluntary sacrifice is bigger than just mental coping, then carrying your cross in silence doesn’t mean you’ve lossed. It's the only doorway to something sacred

“This light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison”

Inside the grind and the crushing quiet, the affliction never feels light. It feels absolute. Unless, against every modern instinct, the threshing floor is the only place wheat is separated from chaff. Whether that crushing pressure breaks a soul or forges a weight of glory heavier than the suffering itself is the reckoning left for each of us to answer in the dark. by @pat.okmi
