The Isicholo is a marker of Zulu married women's identity, status, self-esteem, feminine pride, and fashion. This piece of work was inspired by the women of the Nazareth Baptist Church, who wear the Isicholo hat every Saturday, blending traditional African attire with modern style.

Art is more than what we create, it’s who we are.

"The Evolution of Ingqayi.
Rooted in Xhosa material culture, this sculptural interpretation of Ingqayi explores cultural continuity through contemporary form. Drawing from indigenous materials, symbolism and ways of living, the work considers how inherited traditions can evolve while retaining their cultural significance. It reflects my ongoing interest in preserving cultural knowledge through contemporary art and design, allowing heritage to remain relevant across generations." - Mandisi

-Because some beauty belongs first to the earth.
-Because silence has its own language.

-Because becoming asks for darkness before it asks for light.
-Because not every season is meant to be witnessed.

And because the bloom is only the echo of everything that came before it.

Post-race reflection

42.2KM done and dusted. I showed up to have fun and heal from last year's race cancellation. Picked up a small injury along the way, and sure enough, the cramps hit at the 25 km mark and stayed with me to the finish.
