PREPARING FOR THE PATA UNIFIED SHAKESPEARE & CLASSICAL AUDITIONS? Your audition is an opportunity to celebrate language, rhythm, and bold interpretation while sharing your craft with theatres and projects specializing in classical performance. Whether you're exploring Shakespeare, Molière, Greek tragedy, or Restoration comedy, here are a few ways to prepare with confidence! CHOOSING YOUR MATERIAL ✔ Start early! Give yourself at least six weeks to explore and rehearse your text. ✔ Choose something that excites you, suits your casting range, and showcases your strengths. ✔ Performing two pieces? Look for contrast in tone, rhythm, or emotional energy. ✔ Keep your total audition under 2 minutes. ✔ Cutting a longer monologue is fine, as long as you preserve its dramatic arc. RESOURCES TO HELP YOU PREPARE • Shakespeare's Words by David & Ben Crystal: Vocabulary and scansion • Folger Shakespeare Library: Free annotated texts and resources • The Actor and the Text by Cicely Berry: Techniques for working with heightened language • Classical monologue anthologies: Discover material beyond Shakespeare Remember: The strongest audition isn't necessarily the most elaborate. It's one that demonstrates clear choices, authentic connection, and your unique interpretation of the text. PATA Unified Shakespeare & Classical Auditions November 7, 2026 Save this post, share it with a fellow actor, and start exploring your next great monologue! #PATA #PortlandTheatre #ClassicalTheatre #Shakespeare #ActorAuditions by @patapdx
