Can’t believe it’s been 5 years since Hesitant Alien was released! The experience of recording that album with this awesome group of people kickstarted my career and is an opportunity I will always cherish and remember. Everybody wants the next level. Way fewer people talk about the awkward middle… where you’re outgrowing old habits, your taste is rising faster than your results, and everything feels a little uncomfortable.

That’s why this moment with @patch.makes.music hits.

Growth pains don’t always mean you’re off track. Sometimes they mean you’re finally building the capacity for the thing you’ve been asking for.

If you’ve been in a season where the process feels humbling, slow, or heavier than expected, this clip will probably meet you right where you are.

Working with an artist like Gary Clark Jr. isn’t just a cool credit. It’s a reminder that the quiet years of sharpening and consistency matter. That’s because it’s the part where you keep getting better before the room gets bigger.

If you’re building in the dark right now, let this stretch your perspective a little. Big opportunities usually don’t land at random. They tend to find the people who stayed ready long enough to meet them.

One message changed everything.

@patch.makes.music saw a band he loved, tracked down the drummer, and just… reached out. No guarantee it would go anywhere. But that one message turned into a trip to North Carolina and a lesson that stuck with him.

That’s the thing about shooting your shot — you don’t always know what’s on the other side of it.

If there’s someone you admire, a skill you want to learn, or a door that feels too big to knock on… send the message anyway. The worst they can say is nothing. The best? You end up in a room you never expected, learning from someone who actually has what you’re trying to build. 🎙️✨

@patch.makes.music pulls back the curtain on what it was like when he was called up to run a session with Bebe Rexha with no easing in or warm-up. That’s when preparation and training is so key! Because that’s what takes over when you get thrown into the fire! So if you’re on your grind right now, keep putting in the work — because when the moment comes, you may not have time to get ready. You may just have to be ready. Catch the full episode for more behind-the-scenes gems from Tom Rasulo’s journey in music! 🎙️✨

A lot of artists spend years thinking better gear is the thing standing between them and a real record.

But more often, it’s clarity, resourcefulness, and learning how to squeeze the most out of what’s already in front of you.

A smart home setup won’t replace taste, skill, or vision — but it can absolutely be enough to start making serious work if you stop waiting for “perfect.”

If you’ve been telling yourself you need more money, more space, or more gear before you can really go for it, this clip with @patch.makes.music might shift something.

Tap in, then catch the full episode for more gems on getting the most you can wherever you are in your artist journey! 🎙️✨
