Coming up next week (August 26th) at Patch Studios in The Hague!

Patch Studios & Charnel Ground present an evening of free improvisation, noise and electroacoustic soundscapes with:

Beam Splitter (US/NO):

Beam Splitter are: Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø (NO) and Audrey Chen (US). Using the trombone and voice, they maneuver a balance between fragility, intimacy, the ecstatic and measured control. They share a common sense of pulse and an inherent understanding of the way they each aurally manage and let go of every consecutive moment. The lungs release through to mouths to bell, back and forth like a tactile breathing exchange.

Audrey Chen (US):

Audrey Chen is a 2nd generation Taiwanese-American musician. Her playing explores the combination and layering of an analog synthesizer, preparations and traditional and extended techniques in both the voice and cello. She works to join these elements into a singular ecstatic personal language.

Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø (NO):

Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø is a musician and sound artist focusing on trombone performance, as well as compositional projects utilizing heavy amplification of the brass instrument alongside external sound sources like half-clarinet and various noise generators.

RND (KR/BE)

RND are: Jiyoung Wi (KR) and Lawrence McGuire (BE).

Lawrence McGuire (1997, is a composer based between The Hague and Brussels. Vocality, in its production as well as perception, is the main topic of his experimental practice. His work can be situated somewhere on the continuum of computer music and sound poetry highlighting the interplay between existing languages and non-languages.

Jiyoung Wi is a multi-faceted artist from Seoul, Korea currently residing in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Jiyoung’s work can be situated within fictional literature, improvised music, field recording, with an interest in juxtaposing or disjointing these fields of practice through her sonic and literary methodologies.

Sharing some beautiful moments of Patch’s one year anniversary, and the birthday of our beloved member, Maarten.

Over the past year, we have transformed our space at Jupiterkade into a shared workspace, a public platform, and, most importantly, an artists’ living room, a place to share ideas, exchange knowledge, and foster new collaborations.

For this meaningful gathering, our member Mijs @miss.mijs created a playful and tasteful dining experience.

Our friends also shared the cutest performances:

Where does creativity take root? RAVB architecture students present their vision for Den Haag’s creative future. Friday 12/06 17:00-22:00.

In courtesy of Patch Studios, and to celebrate the second year of collaboration with the Rotterdamsche Academie van Bouwkunst (RAVB), we invite the public, city officials, and creative sector professionals to the exhibition of the final presentation of Creative Ecosystem: Creative Incubators and Transformative Practices, a design studio exploring how broedplaatsen can become permanent cultural anchors in the city.

Working collectively throughout the semester, students built a shared toolbox of spatial strategies drawing on frameworks such as commoning, post-growth planning, and the just city.

You are invited to join at Patch Studios - a working creative incubator as the backdrop for proposals about why such spaces must be protected, expanded, and permanently embedded in the urban fabric.

The design studio is part of a NWO research trajectory (2024–2026): How to Make Room for the Creative Sector, conducted in collaboration with Fontys, Hanze University, and nine Dutch municipalities. by @patch.studios.nl

On June 20th we will be hosting a collective (Un)knotting session at Patch Studios in The Hague, where participating artists from 2024 and 2025 will be presenting the works they developed during the residencies and sharing their experiences while onboard.

An (un)knotting session is a central part of this Artist in Residence program. Every evening we all gather around the table, each of us with a piece of nautic line, and as we learn to make nautical knots, the participating artists tangle and untangle ideas and processes related to their projects as they develop during the week.

Come by and explore their works up close, learn what this residency is about and, why not, make a few knots yourself.

We will be happy to welcome you on June 20th at 19.30hs at Patch Studios, Jupiterkade 8-A, 2516 BS Den Haag. by @patch.studios.nl

Somewhere in 7th-century Japan, a multi-stringed instrument shaped like a sleeping dragon whispered ancient tales, embodying in its sound the Japanese aesthetic of Ma—the sublime beauty found in the silences between the notes. About the same century—but BC, in ancient Greece, a single-string instrument stretched like a golden thread between earth and the cosmos, murmuring divine mathematics to curious ears, revealing the harmony of the spheres through precise ratios.

Centuries later, in a diligent cross-border development process between Jerusalem, Barcelona, and The Hague, OTOK was born. Created by the multidisciplinary collective Wackelkontakt, it got its name from the reversed letters of the traditional Japanese instrument that was its inspiration. This new instrument undresses the old one to its core, distilling it to its most basic element—the single string—and transforming it into an even more ancient instrument: the monochord. A scientific tool developed in ancient Greece by the Pythagorean community, the monochord laid the groundwork for musical theory as we know it—the mathematics of dividing a string into pitch relations.

In this concert Wackelkontakt will perform OTOK’s debut composition, drawing inspiration from the unusual interplay between the natural imagery of Japanese art, Pythagorean musical ratios, and the way both serve as metaphors for the ongoing dissolution of existence, where stability is always an illusion. taken in Den Haag, Netherland by @patch.studios.nl

Patch Studios hosts a workshop aimed at artists working in the Binckhorst: In-Flux is the first workshop in a research project led by Alberto Cappellina (@atelier.albi) that proposes collaboration between artists in the Binckhorst in the design and production of a floating platform for the arts.
RSVP link in bio 🔗

“Over the past twenty years, the Binckhorst neighbourhood of The Hague has welcomed artists into its evolving landscape, with its identity shaped by their presence. Today, however, the same forces of transformation threaten the continued existence of the artists’ studios, as they are increasingly replaced by residential towers. In-Flux explores what the shared values and practices of the Binckhorst artists are, proposing the creation of a floating platform to spark new connections and strengthen their network. This platform serves both as a symbol of the threat of displacement of arts spaces from land and as a collective commons: a multifunctional stage to discuss how to connect with the city and to advocate for the cultural value artists contribute to.“

Following an introduction and presentation of the project background this first session will ask participants to propose their ideas for a floating exhibition platform and to work together on designs and models.

This input will inform the first phase of design and build to produce a first working version of an exhibition platform designed for the waterways of the Binckhorst.

The session will end with drinks and food and a chance to meet each other.
