(WIP) I didn’t realize my last painted self-portrait was aquatic as well. 🐠

To lessen the growing pains of trying new mediums, I combined the familiarity of gouache and pencil with mineral pigments. I made a super viscous glue solution so that the scales of the arowana would stick out from the page (and felt like an alchemist in the process). They are definitely going to be a part of my practice from here on- the potential for luminosity and texture is exactly what I’ve been craving.

“I’ll Be Perfect For You”

This piece was months in the making, and my first animation where I composed the music as well. I’m slowly growing into the artist I want to be, combining all of my creative skills into one finished product, born of my own emotional landscape. Thank you all very much for supporting my art. ⌛️🪡 🙇

My 9 month recap of healing my RSI/overuse injury:

My left hand is almost completely pain-free 😎 My right hand still has to catch up but it’s getting there.

I’ve done physical therapy for about a month with a new and promising therapist and I have faith I’ll get better with this routine even if it takes a very long time.

Also I can flex my wrists 90 on a table. THATS NEW! So I’m gonna start very slowly getting used to bearing weight on them. Never have I wanted to do a push up more than now.

I used to have this weird feeling like my hands weren’t a part of me and were just objects attached to my arms (I drew this months ago with my big chunky pen grip to show that) but that has slowly gone away and I’m feeling like they’re actually a part of my body again.

My goal is by the time I’m 30 I don’t even have to think about how much ‘battery life’ my hands have (cause people say life starts at 30 anyway 🙈). I have 5 years til then! I’ll never forget how to paint or play piano; it’s drilled into me so my life’s meaning right now is to just focus on getting back to baseline. by @patchwork_town

My art vs. artist

I’ve burnt myself out to a crisp this year but I sure did make a lot of art. Halfway through the year I started noticing pain in my hand that migrated the whole way up to my neck and I realized I had thoroughly overdone it, after brushing off my boyfriend’s multiple warnings that I’m gonna hurt myself or cause some muskuloskeletal issue for the past few months. The second half of the year was a lot of doctors appointments, exercising, and praying to every god that exists that I’ll be able to paint and play piano again, which I do believe will happen, I’m just not sure how long it’s gonna take. A reminder to all artists: we are athletes in our own way, our body is our tool, SO TAKE CARE OF IT! 😭 by @patchwork_town

Hello all, just posting this to formally announce I’ll be taking a long hiatus to sort out an overuse injury in my arm and wrist. 🥲 I’ve produced so much in the past year and a half (at a price, HA) so I may still share art here and there. If any other artist friends have experience with overuse injuries I’d love to hear about it! I think it’ll be a few months at least before I touch a pencil or brush again, but time will tell! by @patchwork_town
