The Art of Becoming
The connection between humanity and nature is not just metaphorical—it is real.

We are made of the same elements that compose the mountains, the rivers, and the stars. And just like the forest floor turns fallen leaves into fertile ground, we too are part of this cycle—creating, dissolving, and becoming nourishment for what comes next.

Every piece of art, every creative act, is an offering back to the earth. It is a recognition that we are not owners of creation but caretakers, composting the old to make way for the new.

So, when you create, do not see it as a solitary act. See it as a communion with the world around you, a dialogue between the self and the infinite.

Let your hands shape the clay, your breath move the story, your being soften into the great rhythm—because art, like life, is meant to return, to feed, to regenerate.

🌿 During the Soul to Soil workshops, we explore exactly this connection—creation as a living ritual, art as communion. Comment “Root me in” if you want to be added to the waitlist for our next offering.

Earthen Art & The Seeds of Creativity

Just as a seed holds the blueprint for a great tree, our creative ideas contain infinite potential. Whether in the soil or in the mind, each seed is a promise—of growth, transformation, and emergence.

Earthen art teaches us patience, trust, and deep listening. Clay, like the womb, holds the possibility of form before it takes shape. A sculpture, like a newborn, is the birth of something once invisible—an idea made tangible, a prayer made matter.

When we create, we plant seeds in the world. Some take root instantly; others rest in the dark, waiting for the right conditions to sprout. What we nurture with our hands and hearts becomes part of the living tapestry of existence.

Art is the longing of the individual to be bridged with the whole of life; to connect with and give expression to life itself. -Meera Kasue Hashimoto

I dedicate my life to art, especially the kind that reconnects us with nature and allows us to feel a deep union with everything around us.

As I draw closer to nature and all its inhabitants, I also draw closer to myself and what I can contribute to the greater good.

Words often fail to capture the powerful, mystical aliveness and the profound beauty that being immersed in nature gift me. I find a way to express these experiences through my art.

Just as I finished this earthen art mural @tierramor_costarica I met a fellow artists who profoundly touch my heart @uriatsur with his way of giving expression to life.

This photo was taken by the @mosh.art after a 6 day voice medicine deep dive with Uria, whose loving and compassionate presence, and devotion to creating spaces filled with love, music and voice deeply resonate with me. Thank you Mōsh for capturing this moment of resonance and love for humanity and art.

Thank you @uriatsur for sparking a revolution and for interweaving our art languages in such beautiful ways.

The Art of Mud: Cocoon, Earthen Art immersion at @winaqschool Lake Atitlan, Guatemala December 2025

Facilitated by @rebecca_gilling and Anna Kiesser @path.weavers

Reflecting on what a beautiful, deep and special time we shared co-creating this altar together, guided by our Mayan friends to incorporate Mayan cosmology into the piece.

This workshop was taught in both English and Spanish. The project was hosted by and built on Guatemalan-owned land, and we were honored to be guided in the Mayan calendar and advised on the design by members of the local Mayan community.

Thank you to @jonathan.meade for these beautiful videos

Conversations with the living land
It’s a continuous practice of sharpening the senses, learning to listen and to see

what lives beneath the surface? Memory, grief, power, tenderness, the stories carried in our bodies, lifes longing to create…

For me, creating with earth is a remembering of our belonging, and a conversation with the living land itself. by @path.weavers

This altar is made of simple things.
Earth. Water. Straw. Time. Devotion
A reminder that humility is found close to the ground.

Altar Sculpture by artist Anna Kiesser @path.weavers @anna.kiesser

“I’m deeply fascinated by hands…
the way they speak without words,
how they reveal what lives beneath the surface.
Hands create, hold, shape, destroy, soothe, give.
They are such an intimate extension of who we are.

What makes a hand a giving hand?
When do I give freely,
beyond transaction, beyond exchange,
beyond the imprints of capitalism and colonial thinking?

What does it mean to offer
without needing to receive,
to create without extracting,
to touch without taking?

Maybe it begins in awareness.
Maybe it lives in intention.
Maybe it’s already here,
in the quiet gestures we forget to notice.
This sculpture is the embodiment of this inner dialogue.“

What a deep and special 12 days we shared, co-creating an earthen altar and connecting with the elements. What made it even more special was the cultural exchange with our Mayan family; we learnt about Mayan cosmology, petate weaving, stone wall building, local lime and earth mixes and additives, and even some Tz’utujil language. The workshop sessions were held in both English and Spanish. For me it’s very important to travel to other countries responsibly, with respect and in remembrance and gratitude that we are guests in the place that we are visiting. Our experience was thoroughly enriched by having some of our local friends joining the workshop sessions and sharing meals, conversation and laughter with us.

Creating together in this way is so much more than simply teaching skills and techniques. Yes, I LOVE to get into the nitty gritty of tools, cactus slime and the art of sculpting bevels… but when a group of people spends time living very close to nature, touching raw clay rich soil every day, eating together, creating, building, singing & dancing together; things shift and move in the inner landscape as well as the outer. Working with clay can be deeply transformative on so many levels - I truly hope that as many people as possible in the world have the opportunity to experience this kind of magic.

There is too much to write about for one post - hence why it’s taken me months to get around to posting anything! More to come 💖🙏🏼

I’m over the moon and feeling so full after an incredible natural building artistry immersion, focusing on sculpture and tadelakt plaster here in Costa Rica. When the earth calls, you answer. All the synchronicities lined up for this one.

3 badass earthen women facilitated a beautiful 5 day workshop, sharing techniques that we were able to apply and play with at @tierramor_costarica.

We built a wattle and daub wall, applied a tadelakt plaster to an outdoor water basin, sculpted on earthen walls, created paints from pigments harvested from the soil on site, and explored other native materials 🌵 We even baked chicken in clay— a tradition called soquite. Muchas gracias chef as the food was also moy delicioso!

I’m leaving this experience deeply nourished and inspired to continue creating healing, functional, and beautiful organic structures. Also with a deep desire to learn Spanish.

Let’s see where this goes 🌀🌎🛖

Deep gratitude to

The Latin word for soil, for living soil, is humus.
And the word human is derived from it.
And the word humility is derived from it.

So to truly be human is to be of the soil. And to be truly human is to be humble to not say, the soil is dead earth. #vandanashiva #human #earth #children #soil

So grateful for my dear friend and soul sister @pathweavers for visiting as a gentle, living reminder of this important relationship which connects us all as soul soil children of the earth- our work with women, with children and the earth all becomes alive and heARTful with this embodied connection. Thank you @dreamlandholisticschool for creating space to come together, remember, play and recharge! by @path.weavers

A love letter to the earth expressed in clay, sand, straw and wood by artist
Anna Kiesser @path.weavers
Everything is in a state of becoming.
Skin sheds. Identities loosen.
What we release doesn’t vanish; it composts.
The earth is made from countless lives returning to themselves.
Plants, animals, microbes, time.
Tiny organisms breaking everything down, patiently, over thousands of years.
This is not decay.
This is devotion.
Soil is alive because it remembers.
The human body is built from the same materials.
Calcium in our bones mirrors the limestone in the ground.
Iron in our blood comes from ancient rock, once forged in stars, now
circulating as breath and pulse.
Magnesium, potassium, sodium; the same minerals shaping clay, shaping
hills, shaping us.
Nothing new was added when we arrived.
Our flesh is organized earth.
Our blood is mineral-rich water in motion.
We don’t stand on the land; we are the land, briefly standing upright.
The “self” is temporary.
A momentary arrangement of ancient matter.
But the raw material is eternal, endlessly recycled, endlessly alive.
To remember this is to soften.
To shed.
To return home.
