On September 27, 2024, I went to see the Fusine lakes. Located at the foot of Mount Mangart a few kilometers from the border with Slovenia and Austria, immersed in the Julian Alps, the Fusine Lakes represent one of the most evocative natural wonders of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Lake Predil, the second largest lake in Friuli Venezia Giulia after Lake Cavazzo, is a turquoise gem nestled in the Rio del Lago valley. Surrounded by the majestic Cinque Punte peaks, rising up to 1,919 meters between Italy and Slovenia, it offers a powerful yet silent landscape, where the mountains whisper and speak straight to the heart.

✨ Lake Jasna, Slovenia (2024) ✨
Nestled near Kranjska Gora, at the foot of the Vršič Pass, Lake Jasna is made up of two crystal-clear artificial lakes fed by the Velika and Mala Pišnica streams.
Its emerald waters and the majestic Julian Alps in the background create a fairytale atmosphere — a true alpine gem. 🏔️💚

🐐 History & Legend
Watching over the lake stands the statue of Zlatorog, the golden-horned chamois from Slovenian mythology.
According to legend, Zlatorog guarded a hidden treasure on Mount Triglav and possessed healing powers: wherever his blood touched the ground, Triglav flowers would bloom to heal him.
This mystical guardian adds an enchanting aura to the already magical Lake Jasna. 🌸✨

Palâr Stream in Trasaghis is a hidden gem in the heart of the Carnic Alps, flowing through a wild and secluded valley rich in untouched natural beauty.
Little known yet deeply fascinating, this stream is perfect for those seeking peace, silence, and a true connection with nature.

The Palâr valley is shaped by dense forests covering the slopes, preserving an environment of high natural value.
Walking along the trail on the left bank of the stream, you can admire small waterfalls, crystal-clear pools, and narrow gorge passages.
The most popular area is Alesso, where deep, transparent pools attract swimmers during the summer months.

The Lake of the Three Municipalities, also known as Lake Cavazzo, is a charming place in the heart of Friuli Venezia Giulia where history, nature, and relaxation blend in perfect harmony.
It is the largest natural lake in the region and an ideal destination for families, thanks to the many outdoor activities it offers.

Of glacial origin, the lake lies at the foot of Monte Festa and Monte San Simeone, at a lower level than the Tagliamento River.
It is fed both artificially and by natural underground springs, true hidden craters that add a touch of mystery to this peaceful landscape. Just tap the link and my blog will open 🌿
Go to the Lakes and Rivers section, select The Lake of the Three Municipalities (Lake Cavazzo), and you’ll find the full article there.

Forra del Torrente Leale: An Adventure between Natural Wonders and Unique Biodiversity is a true natural treasure of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Located entirely in the municipality of Trasaghis, the Leale Stream rises from the slopes of Monte Mason and flows through an enchanted valley rich in extraordinary biodiversity.

Thanks to its unique geomorphological features and minimal human presence, the area has preserved a high level of natural integrity.
It is a precious habitat for protected species such as Bombina variegata, better known as the yellow-bellied toad, and the Horvath’s rock lizard (Iberolacerta horvathi), both safeguarded at a European level.

This place offers visitors a deeply evocative immersion into wild nature, perfect for those who seek adventure, silence, and authentic landscapes.

Val Bartolo River in Tarvisio is nestled in the evocative landscape of the Julian Alps, offering a peaceful corner of natural beauty and an ideal escape for hikers and anyone looking to slow down and breathe.
This area is especially fascinating for its enchanting views and its deep connection to local history.

The Val Bartolo River flows through dense forests and green meadows, making the walk to the Val Bartolo clearing a truly memorable experience.
The trail is easy and family-friendly, and it becomes particularly magical in winter, when snow turns the landscape into a fairytale scene.

Starting from the main roundabout in Tarvisio, visitors can follow the road leading to Piani di Bartolo.
The path is well maintained and allows you to enjoy the beauty of the area in every season.
Along the walk, you’ll notice beech trees and firs, whose scents help create a calm, almost enchanted atmosphere.
