I’m 30 years old. I’m single. I’ve never been in a relationship.

And apparently, that requires an explanation.

So, here’s mine.

1. Attraction isn’t enough for me. Love isn’t enough for me. I need compatibility, emotional connection, trust, respect, and reciprocity.

I’m not interested in being in a relationship just for the sake of being in one.

2. I’m naturally a giver. Acts of service are important to me, and I tend to do a lot for the people I care about. I’ve learned that not everyone knows how to appreciate or return that kind of care.

I don’t want to become less caring. I want someone who is willing to give as much as they receive.

3. Men don’t usually approach me in person. I have no problem approaching a man or shooting my shot, but I don’t want to feel like I always have to.

Not because I think women shouldn’t approach men. I want to know what it feels like to be wanted.

I want to feel chosen.

Not because I made myself available or convinced someone to give me a chance, but because they genuinely saw something in me that they wanted.

4. I’m a Black woman with a darker complexion. I’ve experienced being overlooked in dating, and I’m aware of how beauty standards and colorism can influence perceptions of attractiveness.

Sometimes it feels like I’m auditioning for a role I was never considered for.

That hasn’t changed how I see myself, but it has shaped how I experience dating.

5. I’d rather meet someone in real life. After appearing on Episode 43 of Pop the Balloon or Find Love, I started getting more attention online.

I appreciate it, but it made me realize that I still want to meet someone in person and build a genuine connection through natural conversation.

6. My career is a factor. I’m active duty, and I know relationships with someone in the military require trust, flexibility, communication, and sacrifice.

I understand that those responsibilities wouldn’t fall on the other person alone. I have a part to play, too, and I’m willing to be loyal, communicate, make sacrifices, and put in the effort to make a relationship work.

16 years ago, my dad and I took my brother, @jg_xyz to his first drum lesson. He was the one who wanted to play, I was just watching.

But the moment I saw him behind the kit, something in me said, “You belong here too.”

That day changed everything.

This song, “Blues for Time,” was the first we ever learned. It’s from a beginner’s book, but it’s the foundation of something that’s still unfolding.

I’ve evolved a lot since then, as a Woman, a Soldier, a Creative.. and now I’m sharing this journey publicly for the first time.

This is me, returning to the rhythm that started it all.
