Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2022 - the first time I've seen this label on a bottle. The label was initially revealed on December 1st 2024 titled Hommage au Baron Philippe 1922 – 2022 and celebrating the 100th anniversary of Baron Philippe de Rothschild’s arrival at ChaĢ‚teau Mouton Rothschild. Gérard Garouste creates a tribute label for the 2022 vintage⁣ .⁣ ⁣
.⁣
'The 2022 Mouton Rothschild is one of the most muscular, almost brutally powerful wines of the vintage. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums and sweet creĢ€me de cassis mingled with notions of espresso roast, pencil lead and petroleum jelly,⁣
.⁣
'it's full-bodied, dense and concentrated, with huge reserves of tannin and fruit. A blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Merlot that represents 49% of the estate's production, this is a prodigious Mouton that's built for the cellar.⁣
.⁣
Baron Philippe de Rothschild wondered in his autobiography Vivre la Vigne, published in 1981, whether anyone would think to celebrate the centenary of his arrival at ChaĢ‚teau Mouton Rothschild. His question has been answered: the label for ChaĢ‚teau Mouton Rothschild 2022, illustrated with an original artwork by the French artist Gérard Garouste, is indeed the tribute that Baron Philippe had hoped for.⁣ .⁣ ⁣
.⁣
Baron Philippe de Rothschild took the helm of the estate in 1922. Gérard Garouste, in his own symbolic, phantasmagorical way, has created a sort of heraldic banner for Mouton Rothschild, its front wall framed by a portrait of Baron⁣ Philippe and a ram, his well-known emblem.' Petrus 2009 and 2010. Two 100 point wines side by side. And if you need to ask don’t. But it was a lovely find. And no of course I didnt......

On the 2009: ā€˜An opulent Petrus very much in the stylistic family of the 1990, this 100% Merlot has a dense plum / purple colour and a sweet nose of mulberries, black cherries, some subtle toast and licorice as well as a floral element.
.
A wine of great intensity, a multidimensional mouthfeel and full-bodied, stunning concentration, the 2009 Petrus 2009 is everything one would expect of it. Given the sweetness of its tannin, much like the 1990. I suspect this wine will always be ā€œopen for business,ā€ appealing even in it youth. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2050+ā€100 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate,

On the 2010: ā€˜
Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Petrus opens a little broody, with gentle crushed rocks, cast iron pan and fragrant earth notions giving way to a core plum preserves, baked blueberries, licorice and Black Forest cake plus wafts of pencil shavings, garrigue and violets.
Full-bodied, the palate is beautifully poised with a firm line of exquisitely ripe, fine-grained tannins and fantastic freshness bolstering the generous fruit, finishing very long and very, very classy. Collectors fortunate enough to have a few bottles of this vintage are advised to be patient and allow it a further 7-10 years to loosen-up and emerge gloriously from this rock-solid structure.’ 100 Wine Advocate

Some vintages become legends. Château Mouton Rothschild 1959 is one of them. This bottle found at @ardenfinewines in London

The exceptional 1959 Bordeaux vintage produced one of the greatest Moutons ever made. Powerful yet beautifully refined, it continues to captivate collectors with its layers of cassis, cedar, cigar box and remarkable freshness more than 65 years after the harvest.

The 1959 label was created by Richard Lippold, the renowned American sculptor celebrated for his intricate wire sculptures. His abstract design reflects both the deep colour of the wine and the geometric alignment of the vineyard rows—a perfect fusion of fine art and fine wine @chateaumoutonrothschild_

Described by the legendary Michael Broadbent as ā€œmagnificence piled upon magnificence,ā€ the 1959 remains one of the most iconic First Growth Bordeaux ever produced. @christieswine

Some bottles are famous. Others become legends. Coche-Dury belongs to the latter.

Renowned for extraordinary precision, remarkable intensity and the ability to age gracefully for decades, the wines of Coche-Dury are among the most sought-after white Burgundies in the world. From the finest vineyards of Meursault, every bottle reflects meticulous craftsmanship and an uncompromising pursuit of excellence.

For collectors, opening a bottle of Coche-Dury is more than tasting a great wine—it’s experiencing one of Burgundy’s most iconic domaines.

If you could choose just one Coche-Dury to drink, which vintage would it be?

Visiting Beaune in the heart of Burgundy and wine store Denis Perret- a place I always make a trip to. Put this one in your diary.

šŸ· A Beaune institution every Burgundy lover should know.

Founded in 1974 in the heart of Beaune, Maison Denis Perret has become one of the town’s most respected destinations for discovering Burgundy. Created by five of Beaune’s great wine houses—Bouchard PeĢ€re & Fils, Chanson, Joseph Drouhin, Louis Jadot and Louis Latour—it brings together more than 350 appellations, from everyday village wines to some of Burgundy’s most sought-after Grand Crus.

Just a short walk from the Hospices de Beaune, it’s a place where expert advice, exceptional selection and a passion for Burgundy have welcomed wine lovers for over 50 years. A visit here is as much a part of the Beaune experience as the wines themselves

šŸ· One of Piedmont’s greatest success stories.

Founded in 1958, Produttori del Barbaresco is a legendary cooperative that has become one of Italy’s most respected wine estates. Bringing together local growers with a shared commitment to quality, it has shown that collaboration can produce wines worthy of the world’s finest cellars.

The 2016 Barbaresco is a benchmark vintage. Blessed with near-perfect growing conditions, it combines remarkable precision, elegance and ageing potential. Expect aromas of rose petals, red cherry and wild berries, layered with tar, liquorice and subtle spice. Fine, silky tannins and vibrant acidity promise decades of evolution.

A wine that captures the essence of Nebbiolo and the timeless beauty of Barbaresco.

Few names in Burgundy inspire collectors quite like Cros Parantoux.

Once considered an unremarkable, frost-prone site, it was Henri Jayer who recognised its extraordinary potential, painstakingly transforming it into one of the world’s greatest Premier Cru vineyards.

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cros Parantoux comes from one of Burgundy’s finest modern vintages. Powerful yet remarkably refined, it offers layers of black cherry, raspberry, rose petals, Asian spices and silky tannins, with the remarkable balance and length that have made this vineyard legendary.

Production is tiny, demand is global, and bottles rarely stay in collectors’ cellars for long.

For many Burgundy lovers, this is as close as it gets to Grand Cru perfection—without the words Grand Cru on the label.

Would this be your dream Burgundy?

Some wine merchants sell bottles. Others preserve a legacy.

Hidden just off the Champs-Élysées, La Cave du ChaĢ‚teau is far more than an exceptional wine shop. It is the Parisian home of Domaine Clarence Dillon, the family company founded after American financier and Francophile Clarence Dillon purchased ChaĢ‚teau Haut-Brion in 1935—beginning one of the great modern success stories of Bordeaux.

Today, under Prince Robert of Luxembourg, that legacy continues through an extraordinary collection of wines from Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion, ChaĢ‚teau Quintus, and many of France’s finest producers. Housed beneath the elegant Le Clarence restaurant, La Cave du ChaĢ‚teau is a destination where history, rarity and craftsmanship come together in every bottle. @domaine_clarencedillon

For anyone who loves the world’s greatest wines, this is one of Paris’s essential addresses.

šŸ‡¦šŸ‡¹ Why F.X. Pichler is one of Austria’s greatest wine estates.

Few names command as much respect in the world of fine white wine as F.X. Pichler.

Nestled in Austria’s spectacular Wachau Valley, the family has been producing exceptional wines for generations, but it was Franz Xaver ā€œF.X.ā€ Pichler who transformed the estate into an international icon. Today, Lucas Pichler continues that legacy, crafting wines that express the unique character of each vineyard with extraordinary precision.

From the monumental Grüner Veltliner ā€œMā€ Smaragd to the legendary Riesling Unendlich, these are wines of remarkable concentration, minerality and longevity. They combine power with elegance and regularly rank among the finest white wines in the world. The estate is organically farmed, with its top single-vineyard wines now certified organic, reflecting a deep commitment to terroir and authenticity.

If you think Austria is only about value wines, F.X. Pichler will change your mind forever.

Which F.X. Pichler wine would you most like to taste?

Some bottles are more than wine—they’re milestones in history.

Here are three remarkable vintages of Château Mouton Rothschild from the extraordinary cellars of Prestige Cellar in Paris

The 1925 comes from an era when Mouton was still striving for the recognition it would later achieve. The iconic 1926 carries one of the chaĢ‚teau’s earliest artistic labels, reflecting Baron Philippe de Rothschild’s vision of combining great wine with great art. And the 1943 is a rare survivor from the middle of the Second World War, a reminder that even during history’s darkest years, Bordeaux’s greatest estates continued to produce wines of remarkable character.

Which of these legendary vintages would you most love to see in person—1925, 1926 or 1943?

Which of the wines you can find here would you choose?

Wine stores don’t have to be huge to be great. Here’s @dallasfinewine - small but beautifully designed and with a great choice, which I frequent whenever I’m in Dallas.

See you there in August?

One of Italy’s greatest wines. Even more special in magnum.ā€

Sassicaia 1999 is a benchmark vintage from Tenuta San Guido and one of the wines that transformed Italy’s place in the world of fine wine.

Nearly three decades on, it continues to show remarkable elegance, with aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco, graphite and Mediterranean herbs supported by beautifully refined tannins.

Many collectors believe that great wines evolve even more slowly and gracefully in magnum, making bottles like this especially prized.

Would you open it now, or keep it for another decade? taken in London, United Kingdom by @patriciahdavidson
