Reborn is a very personal piece for me. I wanted to capture what it means for me to begin again. Going through tough personal times, I came up with the idea for the film.

Reborn Trailer

Official trailer for my first short film. Entirely self-produced. Written, shot, directed and edited. A personal project, going over my feelings with creative fatigue, lost love and stepping into adulthood.

a few months ago, i hopped on a plane to san francisco to start working as a filmmaker. when i graduated uni in march last year, i told myself that i wouldn’t get a job, that i’d give myself a real shot at becoming a filmmaker. so i stayed home with my parents in the suburbs of montreal. i told myself that i’d be okay as long as i keep creating, even if it’s out of my childhood bedroom and i wouldn’t be making much money. as long as i’m being true to what i love doing and stick to what made me start making films, somewhere along the way, that freedom i was looking for would come. so for a year and a half, i kept my head down and made films that spoke to me, just for the love of creating. eventually though, the guilt of staying home started weighing too heavily on me and i started looking for part-time jobs in the city. applications getting rejected for minimum wage jobs. i was just looking for enough income to move out. that’s when i got the opportunity that would change the course of my year. i’m sitting here writing this from my own place in a new country, not from a desk at a job i hate, wondering what would’ve happened if i had decided to take a shot at seriously becoming a filmmaker. one of the best gifts i gave to myself was the option to believe in my art, that i could make things work. countless unpaid hours, working towards something i couldn’t even explain other than “i love making films”. i’m now living off of that creativity. i still have so much i want to accomplish, but for now i can say that i wasn’t just talking shit. talking about making things happen for myself. i backed it up and made it past a point where most dreams die. keep believing in you. by @patrick_arseneault

This premiere was a manifestation of all I’ve been working towards the past 3 months. Long days & late nights spent working on Reborn. It all paid off. Seeing everyone show up to support my work, share their love, it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my journey so far.

Thank you again to everyone that helped pull this event off. @555_mtl @bytheopenhouse for helping make the event run smooth. @youngtonyy.1 @roha.shahzad @vilakshankh . My guys @rajjpatel.27 @vincwatts, we worked overtime to get everything set up, create something proper.

Let yourself be a beginner again.

Making Reborn and hosting the premiere next week were reminders for me to allow myself to be a beginner. The more I grow, the less I give myself the chance to start new things without expectations. I’m trying to let go of that.
