LARP — An acronym derived from “Live Action Role Playing,” LARP has evolved in contemporary usage to describe the practice of adopting an inauthentic or fabricated persona. It refers to the deliberate presentation of a false identity—whether in digital spaces or physical environments—where an individual assumes characteristics, expertise, or lifestyle elements that do not align with reality. The term is employed to identify performative behavior and the deliberate misrepresentation of one’s true self. LARPing represents a disconnect between an individual’s authentic identity and the constructed image they project to others. This phenomenon has become increasingly prevalent in the digital age, particularly on social media platforms where curated self-presentation allows individuals to maintain personas that diverge significantly from their actual lives, experiences, and capabilities. The practice undermines authenticity and genuine social connection by prioritizing image over substance. taken in Old Chatham Golf Club by @patrick_eber
