A nice getaway to clear my head with family and explore central Maryland. A great reminder of the beauty that Maryland offers and why I’m proud to have this state in my DNA. by @patrickb_simpson

Once I knew a fisherman when I was a child
Old, grainy, and worn down by life
He held a fishing pole in one hand
And a small picture of his wife in the other

I looked down upon his rusty bucket
No fish, no oysters, no Chesapeake crabs
As this was his life, day to day
I asked him why does he kept doing this

With a smile, he tells me he’s finally understood
How special the water and calmness is
And how he’s still able to hold onto
the memories of his late wife

When I walked away from him
I shook my head, not understanding
Why a man would choose
A life of solitude and quietness

Now I am older, in the technological world
Wearing a suit and holding a smartphone
I’m standing in a crowd of faceless people
Realizing the happy simplicity of the fisherman by @patrickb_simpson

Deadlines! Deadlines! Deadlines!

I would rather be outside on this beautiful Friday evening with a good book (especially with the nor’easter is right around the corner), but I’ve got a manuscript deadline next week. Let’s see how far I go tonight before passing out. by @patrickb_simpson

Woke up early today, thinking I could knock out some writing. Ended up staring at my laptop for 20 minutes before walking out of my place and going for a walk to clear my head.

The sun was just coming out, helping clear away the rain from overnight. A Sunday morning where the streets were clear, giving me a cool breeze and soft noises to ponder over.

I do anything in these moments to clear my head. Staring at the sidewalk, looking at a tree, listening to squirrels run across branches, etc. It would’ve been nice if the library was open. by @patrickb_simpson

Double Feature

After writing over a thousand words on my newest project, I wanted to get out of the house and see the new Resident Evil movie. What I forgot was it’s Batman Day and my local theater had a screening for the Mask of the Phantasm, so I got a tix for each.

Just watched Mask of the Phantasm and getting ready for Resident Evil, and I have to say seeing Mask of the Phantasm on the big screen was next level for me. Seeing the same movie that had an impact on my childhood really brought a smile to my face. There’s more in that 75-minute “kids’ film” than most of the sludge pumped out of Hollywood today.

Let’s see how Resident Evil is now. by @patrickb_simpson

Classic film Friday night.

If you know me, then you’ve definitely heard me talk about my love for 70s cinema—especially crime movies. One film I never got around to seeing, but finally going to is the 1971 version of Get Carter with Michael Caine. by @patrickb_simpson

This week I sent Apprentice House Press the final, polished manuscript for the next Pierce novel, Mister Falcon: A Truman Pierce Novel, which will be out either in April or May 2027. Stay tuned because over the next couple of months I’ll be updating everyone on the cover design, interior, and everything else. By mid-December, I should have ARCs of the available for reviewers and fellow authors.

But while you wait for Mister Falcon, get caught up with Pierce’s journey! https://a.co/d/0fBgwCnj

And make sure you head on over to Kira visuals for great artwork! by @patrickb_simpson

I commissioned Kira visuals for a drawing on the first character I ever created, Truman Pierce. A great job, not just capturing the character, but also the atmosphere of my debut novel, Pierce. This is going to look perfect for future book signing!

Authors or anyone else looking for drawings, check out Kira visuals page! by @patrickb_simpson

Whenever I start a new novel, it’s not just books that I draw inspiration from, but movies. Crime films from the 70s & 80s are always my go to in keeping me focused. These stories are great in shaping character development and plot. With the long weekend, here’s my lineup when I take a break from writing. by @patrickb_simpson

Started a new crime novel today set in Calvert County. This is an idea I’ve been bouncing around for a while now. Wrote 1300 words today and feeling very positive about it. Not 100% sure about the title, but that’s the beautiful thing about first drafts. by @patrickb_simpson
