Forms following function in an architect’s bakery. There are precious few bakeries in this country (where aesthetics are king and often tyrant) where this principle of design is embodied in the diversity of its elements as well as their arrangement; a real structure, rather than merely an array. I don’t know that we have always been one of these bakeries (and we’re certainly not reinventing the wheel, here), but I think as we’re considering this more, it’s definitely getting there. Whether we realize it or not amidst exciting expansions into new spaces and new markets, the OG is becoming a truer expression of itself recently, breadwise, than it has been since I’ve known it. Brb got stuck down a rabbit hole hyperfixating on ambient bread, shaping en couche, natural bursts, and jambon beurre. Maybe I won’t brb. Maybe you & me, reader, should just open a new analog bakery without baskets or lames or a refrigerator or Spotify and just ball the heck out forever, teeth clenched, guns blazing, listening only to each other laugh and cry and go crazy. Goûter apres Vuggestue. New mill, new flour blend, new dough. Good bread days beginning to outnumber the other kind of bread days in increasing proportions.New role at work, new bathroom at home. New estimation of my capacity for time management, new fascination with our plumber’s desire to ignore it entirely. New headaches, new nonsense, but also a sweet, meager trickle of a few new small victories that may one day add up to something. Snack time remains unchanged. by @patrickbenpatrick

Bird is one today. I’ve got a late start at work and we had blueberry pancakes together for breakfast 🥞 His favorite things at this moment in time are clementines and his cat Hammurabi. Our favorite thing at this moment in time is him. He has been an easy, joyful baby. He is always laughing, nearly walking, and his word of choice to describe most things in the world around him is “wow”. It bodes well. by @patrickbenpatrick

Nine years today since I became the luckiest person in Baltimore.In my experience since, those who are luckiest there are the luckiest anywhere.
