Hey Friend, Big ask for you.
I belong to the last Knights of Pythias lodge in Portland ( there's only 10 in the state/ and a hundred or so left nationally ),
And we've been in a long, painful period of decline for a variety of reasons but mostly because of the fact that they lost sight of their reason to exit and stopped being relevant to the people in their communities. I'm in a many years argument with the state leaders;
After Covid / we lost a lot of our membership at my lodge as well as our historically self-funded; and donate to kids groups and causes around the state have taken a HUGE toll on our lodge funding.
There has been a rift for a long time between ourselves and the other local lodges about our purpose ( to help support minority groups / widows and orphans / youth groups and other causes for social justice ). *as the organization nationally was started for this exact purpose. Now they've seized on our hardship at my lodge as an example of bad stewardship; forcing a variety of HARD changes and limitations, we only have about 7-10 members ( and a much younger demographic ). We are currently being run on rail by the higher ups, I need to start begging community support for the building repairs and improvements long overdue.
But I also need to prove that we are valued and capable of self funding again; so we are being forced to close down the basement workshop/ high school robotics team space. And probably end my historically Free tools/ time and assistance to people in need through the shop space we have long worked on providing. In short: I need to ask folks in the area if they have ( or might know anyone ) who would be interested in renting the spaces ( upstairs and down stairs + our parking lot ) for venues/ events / birthdays and all of that. I figure you know a lot of people who might need/want a space where they could practice bands / dances / performances or might need a space to rent for their own gigs? Also if you look at the history of the Knights/ I think you'd find we used to align very closely with your own beliefs and goals. I'd like to start taking some of the prouder history of that back and become the group who helps thos by @patricklohkamp

Almost a year later.
Gods I needed this in my life again.

Lots of hardship going out right now and for a long while. This was not the year of celebration and victories we had hoped for.
The wins that we will have are harder, and farther apart from each other. The time with friends is fewer each and every time it feels like.
The road gets longer, and lonely with each season.

After another filthy day, and a bit of an upset about cancelled plans once that was finished.
Ended up at the bar, about 10pm. Managed to steal the largest table to myself, with my paints and the infantry.
I did not do a lot of painting, but was working on details.
It was a nice break from everyone and everything.

Alright friends,
We have been sitting quiet on this for too long.
And time is running out.

The fact of the matter is: after Covid, and the homeless people those last three years.

The lodge is nearly broke.
And due to "deferred maintenance" under the old regimes/ we are forced now to pay a steep price for the immediate repairs/replacement for the roof.

The lodge desperately needs help and soon;
In order to replace the roof we will be taking something like $20,000 from our already insufficient investments to pay for immediate work.

When it's done, I will have a short time to prove my serious intentions of restoring the building to operation to pay our bills again, and then to be of benefit to our community additionally.

Once, we supported five or seven youth sports teams, a highschool robotics team, a food bank, ladies groups, and scholarships.

We helped the neighbors with car and home repairs, taught people to do this work and gave them tools to see them set for future works.

We have money to shelters, and helped the homeless when-how we could.

Now, we have little enough money that I must ask the scouts to pay for using our building each week

I have begun selling off my tools a while ago, or trading them to folks who have been helping me with the lodge.

Right now, I'm preparing to sell my truck, my boat, and both my trailers.

If we cannot raise $600 to $1,200 a month for the building. We will be forced to close, and lose decades of history, of honor and service.

To make it personal;
I have spent my entire adult life here, teaching kids, fixing problems and showing others how to build, to find what they need and can to do themselves.

We fed the hungry, we taught or raised the ones others forgot. We are not a church and no religion binds us, only consciences and brotherhood.

So I must ask you now, everyone to aid us.
If I have done you some help,

When I am allowed to open my doors again, we will need people who would rent the building for events.

People who want projects done, or who might wish to borrow the tools and knowledge that I have otherwise made freely available.

We will need to make an amount of money I myself could pay if I were full by @patricklohkamp
