3 days in Kathmandu. Filmed collaboratively on cameras sourced from charity shops and car boot sales.

I’ve been wanting to return to Nepal ever since I visited in 2018 - the chaos of stepping out onto dusty streets ridden with matchbox taxis, honking scooters and big bumbling rainbow buses feels a very long way from home. Skateboarding here seems impossible but it is thriving, I feel very lucky to be welcomed into such a positive community who are building a lifestyle for themselves in a city that is not designed for them at all. While our experiences of daily life are very different, we share the same outlook, meaning the 7000+ kilometres between our respective upbringings evaporates when we roll around together. I want to try and represent this experience through film but this cannot be done from my perspective alone. By getting those I meet to film whatever they want in their lives, we can begin to grasp the madness and the mundaneness of being a skateboarder. This is just an introduction to the project from the first few days, hopefully it’ll be a full length by a miscellaneous date next year. It’s all just one big DIY experiment so if anyone has any advice please hit me up!

In less than two weeks we will be back on hallowed concrete for a fourth time, raising money for the important work of @thespacecheddarvalley and @thebenraemersfoundation. We’ve been putting the work in to make this year the best yet.

Get down from midday where in true world cup fashion we will be warming up through a giant game of Cheddar one bounce. This will be followed by some free skate lessons for those want to try it out or learn something new. Boards and helmets provided.

Anything goes from there. Do some skating. Win some prizes.

Our good friends and premier noise makers @lossavagesband will be returning for the bowl jam at 4pm.

Once we’re done with skating it’s all over to the main stage for a set from the great @sublimesoulclub

We hosted a Christmas fundraiser and had the pleasure of having @naveenmacro there to capture it all. Although it was a bite-sized version of the summer event, everyone came together, as they always do, to support us and the incredible charity that is @thespacecheddarvalley.

We are so grateful for the extended family this has created, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for Cheddar.

A look into skateboarding in Pokhara through the lens of @pemthilen_ + @aka_tiger.333 & others.

It’s been a tough couple years and the Nepal project I have been working on paid the price for that, but I’ve finally got myself together a bit and will be looking to get the full film out by the end of summer (someone please keep me in check on this!).

Pokhara is Nepal’s second biggest city, sitting on the shore of the vast Phewa Lake, with the reflection of the Annapurna mountain range bouncing off its surface. It has a much calmer feel than its big, dusty sister, Kathmandu, which at the time of filming had no skateparks due to difficulties acquiring land, securing support from local government, and accessing funding.

In contrast, Pokhara has concrete and coping in its veins thanks to the work of@rckrck122 over the last couple of decades, building Nepal’s very first skateparks. The monumental Annapurna Skatepark was built in 2017 by @makelifeskatelife and has supported a steady scene ever since.

The longer film focuses on Pemthilen, who grew up in KTM but moved to Nepal’s tourist capital so his dad could work as a stone carver and his mum could open a restaurant on the lakeside. Now representing @crypticcrewnepal from afar, Pemthilen has been a driving force behind the city’s output. I’ll spare the detail for now, but here is a mash-up of footage collaboratively captured among those who call this place home.
