Economists call it the Jevons paradox: when something gets more efficient, we don’t use less of it, we use more. Coal in the 1800s, computing in the 2000s, and now our own working hours. AI can give us time back, but only if we decide ahead of time what that time is for. Otherwise the extra capacity just turns into more work.

The tech world is starting to realize that understanding language and understanding the physical world are two very different things. A model can write a perfect safety manual and still have no idea why you don’t stand under a load.

The companies that figure out physical AI will need people who actually know how buildings get built. That’s where construction has a real seat at the table. Follow for more on how AI is really changing the way we build.

A pilot commented on that post saying autopilot already does 90% of their job, and they’re there for the 10% that needs a human. Most of our jobs work the same way. AI can handle the repetitive part. The question is whether you know which 90% that is. What’s yours?

The biggest building in human history is about to go up. Who’s actually going to build it?

Everyone’s talking about what AI will replace. Nobody’s talking about the crews it’s going to need. Every data center, power line, and factory behind this AI boom has to be built by real people on real job sites, and we’re already short on skilled workers. The future of tech might depend less on coders and more on electricians, welders, and concrete crews.

Would you tell your kid to go into the trades today?

Send this to the person who thinks building a house is mostly lumber and labor.

In five states, getting approval to pour a foundation costs more than the foundation itself. Same house, same square footage. The only thing that changes is the zip code.

Which state surprised you most?
