RIIFT.
//
It has been a pleasure working with so many brands more recently. The Perth legends, John and Al, reached out earlier this year to test some builds for their new product.
//
Given the chatter on the new system, I’ll go into the builds, future designs, and specs for the @riift.hq system.
//
Orders are being taken NOW. We got many outlines and designs to choose from.

First downwind run on the @riift.hq enabled @270boardco on my @hydrocraftsystems Helix
The setup is light enough with the 2p that I ran 1km up the beach to gain dw ground then did a 4km run, and motored back upwind to my start point on my belly.
Just flat-water on the inside and zoom out to the bumps under power then pop up above the pod and you’re downwinding. The design of the Riift concentrates all of the battery and electronics mass right over the center of lift of the front wing which makes such a balanced setup, hard to explain but it allows you to pivot, roll, turn and pump without much compromise. Just keep in mind even though you can access downwind runs easily on a small board I would recommend always being on a larger board just because the ocean is vast Downwinding can take you far from shore quickly and your board is your vessel, paddling a tiny prone board in isn’t the same as a floaty dw board that paddles fast. You could get overwhelmed by a current and not make any progress. Practice safe downwinding even as these new awesome tools become available. #riift by @patrickrebstock

First session ever trying an e-assist in the waves, and it was so much fun. The 2p from @riift.hq on a @270boardco Riiift enabled custom board and my @hydrocraftsystems Rampage 825cm and Spliff 140 tail rides with the feel and balance of a prone but with some extra sauce. Had the pleasure to get to ride this new parawing from @ozone.wing for a few weeks. It’s called the Afterburner and it’s a performance wing that has incredible handling of gusts and the high end is greatly expanded while maintaining the low end vs the other parawings I’ve flown. It has a very well supported canopy and holds a clean profile allowing it to be pushed fast and high into the wind, you don’t sheet out far with this wing to depower but edge against it and just drive into the wind. It allows you to comfortably handle on the high end because you can easily slow down by pinching harder into the wind but maintaining forward drive with no flapping, even switch stance I can control and cruise upwind when I would have been out of control on other wings in the same conditions. With the new bar it allows you to hold onto that same top end that you can hooked in while unhooked and one handed while doing foot switches and gibes, getting that hand more forward allows you to steer the parawing through the maneuver but also sheet out easily one handed to handle OP situations making it a well rounded parawing in the high end because if you can rocket upwind when op but then eat it every gibe and foot switch it doesn’t truly have the top end. This parawing delivers control and comfort for really stretching the wind range both hooked in and unhooked. It’s a more performance wing for people chasing performance riding characteristics it comes will more lines and thinner lines for a slightly more advanced stow and deploy compared to the PRv2. If you never have stow issues and can do it confidently where you are paying attention to keeping lines away from the canopy like a Rat pack method on a pocket rocket you should be fine but know their is a trade off and for people getting into parawinging and learning to stow the simplicity of a pocket rocket v2 will be a better fit. If I’m going long distances upwind or just enjoying the speed and performance of the wing I reach for the Afterburner, if I’m shuttling I reach for the pocket rocket v2 they very different and both awesome. by @patrickrebstock

My @ombraz polarized glasses helped me see a Great White early and below the surface so I could make an evasive maneuver and go left instead of into it. Being able to see stuff like kelp, sealions, sharks and the occasional tuna or big fish early and below the surface is a huge advantage for being able to avoid. A lot of people ask if the polarized makes it hard to read the water and bumps and for me it doesn’t at all, like anything you need to try a few times to get used to it but I find not having to squint or be blinded by the glare makes it so I can see so much easier to read the ocean. That and it protects your eyes from the wind and glare, really happy with my Ombraz on and off the water. Thanks for making the best shades 🤙 by @patrickrebstock

My thoughts on the @blackprojectsup Fusion Adjustable Three piece Foil-X paddle that I have been testing. I’m using blade size XS Perfect for run line augmentation, parawing/sup downwind combo, and travel. With a road bike innertube taped to it is becomes a Swiss Army knife of paddles doing whatever you want with it. Also have a cool paddle connector file for 3d printing if you want to put it in the back of your @vaikobi v4 pfd for big upwind downwind laps where you want paddle as backup. taken in Grover Beach, California by @patrickrebstock

Testing out the @hoverair_global Aqua drone. Purchased with my own money and thoughts are my own. I’m impressed and so stoked a company spent the time and energy to make a product for watersports. For filming riding downwind it was able to handle wind speeds of 40mph no problem while producing usable footage, for sailing across the wind or upwind it needs lower wind speeds as it’s battling your speed and the wind. Can’t wait to shoot with it more. Biggest issue is you can’t buy it in the USA, but hopefully that will change. Thanks @taocerbo by @patrickrebstock
