Dylan Larkin gave Detroit everything through the rebuild. Now he’ll enter the season without the “C” on his chest.

Larkin confirmed he’ll report to camp, but his future with the Red Wings remains unresolved after requesting a trade. Detroit has chosen to begin the season without naming a captain.

Whatever happens next, it’s hard to blame Larkin for reaching this point. He stayed. He led. He waited.

Did the Red Wings fail their captain, or is stripping the “C” the right move after a trade request? 🇺🇸🏒

25 years later, we remember. 🇺🇸

In the weeks following September 11, 2001, hockey returned to New York. FDNY and NYPD stood alongside the Rangers at Madison Square Garden and one unforgettable moment between Mark Messier and FDNY Captain Larry McGee honored fallen FDNY Chief Ray Downey.

Never forget. 🇺🇸🏒

The three biggest storylines remaining this NHL offseason and they all happen to be gold medal winning Americans!

1. Dylan Larkin requested a trade back in early June 2026. Yzerman, before “transitioning” out of the GM role, stated:

“Dylan has five years remaining on his contract. My job as the manager of the Detroit Red Wings is always to do what is in the best interest of the Detroit Red Wings, and I will act accordingly to that. I cannot make any guarantees, or did not make any guarantees, that that request could or would be met.”

Will Larkin start the season as a Red Wing or will his trade request be fulfilled before the regular season begins?

2. Quinn Hughes still needs a new contract. His current contract expires at the end of this season.

Last December, the Wild pulled off a massive blockbuster trade to acquire the Norris-winning defenseman from Vancouver. They gave up a haul to get him (including Zeev Buium and Marco Rossi) with the hopes of locking him down as their franchise cornerstone. Now, the clock is ticking on Bill Guerin to offer him what is expected to be another massive contract!

Will Quinn Hughes stay in MN? Will he go join his brother in NJ? Or will he go somewhere else entirely?

3. Connor Hellebuyck went public with his trade request.

The goaltending market was completely flipped upside down when superstar goalie Connor Hellebuyck released a bombshell statement confirming that he privately requested a trade from the Winnipeg Jets months ago. With training camp officially opening next week, Hellebuyck decided to break his silence to accelerate the process because he believes moving on is the best path forward for him and his family.

Will Winnipeg honor his wishes? Or will he remain in limbo like Larkin?
