The House Hold - oil on panel - 36” tondo. A portrait of my sister @sistam0908 ❤️❤️ Recently I was asked if I use AI in anyway to create my work. My response…”I don’t need AI. It’s all right there in my very own brain and one of my goals when studying art was to develop my skills to a level that I could pull out of it and create the reality that I see there. Then the process of painting takes it even further than I even imagined. Besides that I would never get the satisfaction of making a work if I skimped on it even a little. Lol, I don’t even use a grid to lay out the composition, I just start drawing and I rely on what I know I can do and the searching that comes along with the painting practice to take it where it’s going to go. With a held, aloof gaze, she stares at the viewer who has been captivated by her billowing, shimmering, beautiful red locks that swirl and cascade like water over the edges of her ruff collar. Her collar holds in it the eyes of others that deceivingly look like her own. But she is not fooled. She knows they are all looking and judging. She understands already, at her young age, that there are many things expected of her in terms of what she looks like. She fears she will never be truly known by anyone. Eye Luv U 2 is special painting for me. Its first version was the first finished painting I created in Minnesota after moving from NYC. It suffered surface issues so I created it again on a new substrate, hence the 2 in the title. However, it was the first concept I had for the still in progress “No Evil” paintings (Hear No Evil, See No Evil and Speak No Evil) and the first in the series of 5 “Speak No Evil” paintings. In this series the young subjects wear their collars pulled up around their mouths and contain an element of threat. When “Eye Luv U 2” was finished, I felt as if I brought to fruition something held inside me for a long time and that I had painted her better than I had ever done before. She will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you @graphitegallery for finding her forever person and home.
