Had the privilege of working on TWO Cinemalaya Films this year!

For this film, the vision was clear: to have 2 distinct treatments for the Past and the Present. The Past had to evoke the natural vibrancy of childhood, while the Present needed to feel bleak. (1/3)

A few months ago, @themorningepisodes asked me to help him create a music video for his song “Pangako ng Bukas.” The track features @champluipio and was made in partnership with @mentalhealthph, for Mental Health Month.

For this project, I wanted to explore themes surrounding the emotional journey and struggle of a devoted husband and father, and an artist living with a medical condition that impacts his ability to perform.

Visually, I aimed to tell the story through color, aspect ratio, and lenses.

For the verses, we went with a 4:3 black-and-white frame to show constriction and that “boxed in” feeling. Fisheye and tilt-shift lenses added to the sense of unease and disorientation.

The chorus represents release — a moment of strength where the characters break free from inner struggles and rediscover what truly matters. The frame expands to 16:9 with vibrant colors and Petzval primes for that soft, flowy look.

The final chorus plays out on a rooftop with Miguel and Champ performing under a stormy sky — lightning flashing in the distance. It wasn’t planned, but it felt symbolic: that even in the middle of chaos, we can still find joy, passion, and friendship.

Despite limited resources and only one camera, we shot across four days in La Union, Parañaque, and BGC. It was one of the most fun and fulfilling shoots I’ve done in a while, made possible by friends, family, and colleagues who lent their time, talent, and support.
