I broke a few composition rules on this but love the way it turned out. I’ve been working on unfinished paintings for a while and love how adding layers over layers creates depth. Calling this:

It has been a difficult summer, said goodbye to my amazing younger brother💔 Grief is a catalyst for creative work, I’ve finished nearly 30 paintings since the late spring. I started this, My Brother’s Garden, the day after his funeral. Looking forward to exhibiting this and others in March.

Been working small all summer, dealing with considerable pain while waiting for a hip replacement, which is next week. These are the last two of the thirty paintings I’ve finished. Bright and happy gems of hope for healing so I can get back to the studio soon. See you on the other side🩵🩷

Sold🔴 This gem (11x14) mixed media acrylic painting is going to a new home. Yipee!

It’s on archival paper mounted on a cradled wood panel. For a year and a half I painted exclusively on paper and it’s some of my favorite work. I was disgusted with the way I tightened up on canvas or board so I created close to 75 paper paintings to learn how to loosen up. Happy they can easily be mounted for hanging. by @patti_edmon

Along the garden path 16x12 on cradled board.

I had a sudden, overwhelming desire for color and this is what happened. Entering a new stage in my art and it makes me happy.

Some days I just want to see crumbly texture and gouge into layers to find the source of my love and grief. Leave it all on the page so my heart doesn’t overload. 🩷 by @patti_edmon

Used a summer palette for the 10x8 gems. Continuing my in-home residency, processing life. Hope there’s light in your day🩵 by @patti_edmon

Been reworking old paintings and I’m loving the results. These are tiny (10x8) and I’m going to use these colors and techniques to work much larger. Something about painting over ‘duds’ releases expectations and fear of outcome. Maybe I’ll make bad paintings so I can rework them lol. Hope you’re enjoying your day🩵 by @patti_edmon

My last few stories have been about good days. I’m actually painting through heartbreak. My little brother passed away a couple of weeks ago and now that the dust has settled I’m in a creative frenzy. Making something beautiful (imo) from grief is what makes this time sacred. And good. by @patti_edmon

This painting started out as a color study and ended up as a wild experiment in mark making. Love when that happens. by @patti_edmon

I gravitate to bright happy colors when hot weather shows up. Is your palette influenced by the season?
Prints available. by @patti_edmon

Might tear this one out of my sketchbook and frame it, no surprise that I do my best work when there are no expectations
Btw, I miss the old days on Instagram, when a post got seen without having to add music and make it into a video. (Just) a piece of art! by @patti_edmon
