Paula Pääkkönen | Assorted Flavours series (all from 2026), hand-blown glass • As part of her solo exhibition Karamelli 21.8.–19.9.2026 at Lokal Gallery + www.lokalhelsinki.com

“Karamelli is a journey into a world of sweetness and imagination, where glass sparkles in delicious colors and broken glass is temptingly reminiscent of sugar. On the border between beauty and danger, the familiar and the strange, every gate opens a door to a new world. As children, we would search for fairy gates in the forest. They could be found in secret springs or in snow-covered trees that formed a natural arch above the traveler. As we passed through the gate, we kept a wish in mind. On the other side, a new world awaited – one where our wish could already come true.”

Paula Pääkkönen (b. 1990) is a glassblower and artist. She has chosen glass as her main material because of its challenge and endless possibilities. Glassblowing techniques are a great source of inspiration for her and an essential part of her artistic work. As an artist, she works on themes related to childhood, memories and imagination. In his work, he strives for that moment when magic is still present and proportions can do somersaults.

I've had a busy year with three solo shows! I've loved every project and I'm incredibly grateful for each one ❣️ At the same time there is only so much resources and capacity one person has. Last week I got a much needed break in Lapland and tried to touch ground as much as possible.

Burnout and mental health issues are not new to me and I've noticed I've developed some good skills over the years to be better at noticing my limits and taking necessary action when the first signs appear. Still it is hard to manage sometimes, especially when you have such passion for what you do. ❤️‍🔥

For the rest of this year I will be working from a different mindset. One where I prioritize fun, pleasure, nature, friends, movement and getting back in touch with 'the spark' or life energy that is SO important for an artist. This might mean being out of reach or slower responds to messages etc.

Thank you everyone who visited my exhibitions and for following my journey 🥰
