I have an unshakeable belief in your ability to fix yourself. As long as you’re breathing there’s hope. ⁣
⁣
My program and my book are based in my life. ⁣
⁣
The things I’m telling you to do? I do everyday. And have for years. It is demanding. It can feel like too much but you’ll learn that your feelings are lying to you. And have been for a long time. It’s time to get to work. ⁣

Most people don’t rise to the occasion.⁣
⁣
They fall back on what, and how they’ve practiced.⁣
⁣
I watched it for 20 years teaching people to shoot. Perfect conditions create fragile confidence. People want everything optimized in their favor. Optimal amount of sleep, stress, hydration, whatever. That’s not real life. ⁣
⁣
Train tired. Train rushed. Train uncomfortable.⁣

I lost my father to pancreatic cancer on October 10, 2016.⁣
⁣
All the strength, skill, endurance, and resilience I’d spent years building was useless against it.⁣
⁣
So I had to answer a harder question: If strength can’t save everyone you love…⁣
⁣
What is it for?⁣
⁣
I’ve spent the last 10 years answering that. by @paul.sharp.coaching

22 years as a police officer taught me this:⁣
⁣
Calm is contagious. So is panic.⁣
⁣
I’ve watched one scared person put an entire room on edge. And I’ve watched one steady person settle everyone down.⁣
⁣
People borrow your energy.⁣

It took me more than 20 years to earn my black belt in jiu-jitsu.⁣
⁣
Twenty years.⁣
⁣
Most people quit something after three months because they aren’t seeing results fast enough. They want the reward before they’ve endured the process. They want the belt without the rounds. The strength without the struggle. The confidence without the failures. The transformation without the years.⁣
⁣
But that’s not how any of this works. The black belt was never really the prize. The prize was who I had to become to earn it.⁣ ⁣

The thousands of rounds. The injuries. The losses. The days I got dominated. The nights I drove home wondering if I was ever going to get better. The decision to come back anyway.⁣
⁣
Again. And again. And again.⁣
⁣
That’s what built me.⁣
⁣
A belt can be tied around your waist in a few seconds. Becoming the kind of person capable of earning it can take decades.⁣ I had to become the guy that could come back from a brain aneurysm, multiple surgeries, a couple divorces, and that process can’t be faked or hacked.
⁣
And maybe that’s the lesson: Stop asking how quickly you can get there. Ask who you’ll become if you refuse to quit long enough to arrive. The belt was never the prize. The man it took 20 years to build was. It’s been too long to remember who I was without Jiujitsu but I’m damn proud of who am with Jiujitsu. ⁣ by @paul.sharp.coaching

At 58, I tore the labrum in my shoulder.⁣ My doc was not positive about the outcome.
⁣
Suddenly, the things I had done for years weren’t available to me anymore. I couldn’t squat. I couldn’t bench.⁣ I couldn’t roll.
⁣
And the easy story would have been this: You’re getting old. Your best years are behind you. Be grateful for what you had. Start winding it down. That story can go to hell. I have no interest in slowly becoming a spectator in my own life.⁣
⁣
I refuse to confuse aging with surrender. I refuse to let pain become an identity. I refuse to let an injury decide what kind of man I become next. The body changes. The rules change. But the fight does not end until you decide it ends.⁣
⁣
So I adapted. I stopped asking, “What can’t I do anymore?” I started asking, “What can I still build?” That question changes everything.⁣
⁣
Because there is always another way to train. Another way to compete. Another mountain to climb. Another version of you waiting on the other side of the excuse.⁣
⁣
I had signed up for a powerlifting meet and I refused to drop out. Not because I was fully healed. Not because the timing was perfect. Not because it was smart to pretend I was still 25. I stayed in because I needed a target. I needed a reason to rebuild. I needed to remind myself that a setback is not a death sentence unless you turn it into one.⁣
⁣
This is what Refuse to Die means to me.⁣
⁣
It does not mean pretending you are invincible. It means refusing to disappear. It means taking the scar, the loss, the injury, the failure, the years piling up behind you, and using every damn bit of it as material.⁣
⁣
Material to rebuild. Material to harden. Material to become something you could not have become without the struggle. One day, every one of us will face the final limit. Until then, I want to know I kept moving. Kept building. Kept testing myself. Kept choosing life instead of retreat.⁣
⁣
To spend everything I have on becoming stronger, deeper, harder to kill in every way that matters. I will adapt. I will rebuild. I will keep showing up.⁣ by @paul.sharp.coaching

In jiu-jitsu, the position doesn’t always beat you, panic does.⁣
⁣
The moment you stop thinking, stop breathing, and start fighting every inch with desperation, you begin spending energy you can’t get back.⁣
⁣
Life punishes you the same way.⁣
⁣
Bad positions are inevitable: pressure, failure, uncertainty, loss, moments where everything feels stacked against you.⁣
⁣
Strength isn’t always escaping immediately.⁣
⁣
Sometimes strength is staying calm long enough to realize you’re not finished.⁣
⁣
Breathe when the weight is on you.⁣
⁣
Think when everyone else is reacting.⁣
⁣
Conserve your energy, protect what matters, and wait for the opening.⁣
⁣
Because the person who can remain composed under pressure can survive situations that break people who looked stronger, faster, and more powerful.⁣
⁣
You don’t have to dominate every position.⁣
⁣
You just have to refuse to panic in the bad ones. by @paul.sharp.coaching

🍂 SBG FALL CAMP COACH SPOTLIGHT 🍂

🥋 COACH PAUL SHARP

SBG OG | Chris Haueter Black Belt | Creator of MDOC

Meet another one of your coaches for SBG Fall Camp 2026!

Coach Paul Sharp is an SBG OG, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under the legendary Chris Haueter, former law enforcement officer, and creator of the MDOC program—a multidisciplinary approach to weapons, self-defense, and dealing with real-world violence.

🔥 WHAT IS COACH PAUL TEACHING AT FALL CAMP?

Jiu-Jitsu for Multiple Opponents

Jiu-Jitsu gives us an incredible ability to control another person—but what happens when there may be more than one opponent?

Coach Paul will be exploring how the priorities of our Jiu-Jitsu change when we move from the training room into a self-defense situation.

🥋 Using Jiu-Jitsu while staying aware of multiple opponents
🥋 Strategies for staying on your feet
🥋 Getting back to your feet when you end up on the ground
🥋 Understanding when staying engaged on the ground can become a liability
🥋 Adapting your grappling to the realities of a self-defense situation
🥋 Knowing when the objective needs to shift from control to disengagement

The techniques may come from Jiu-Jitsu, but the context changes the objective.

Against a single opponent, controlling the ground may be exactly where you want to be.

With multiple opponents, your ability to stay standing, get back to your feet, and disengage becomes much more important.

Coach Paul’s session will give you another way to look at the Jiu-Jitsu you already know—and how to adapt it when the situation changes.

⏳ Early Registration for SBG Fall Camp is almost over!

Don’t miss your opportunity to train with Coach Paul and the rest of this year’s Fall Camp coaching lineup.

🍂 See you at Fall Camp!

It’s always your fault.⁣
⁣
Not because you control everything that happens to you, but because you control what you do next.⁣
⁣
Your choices created patterns. Your actions produced consequences. Your habits built the life you’re standing in today.⁣
⁣
Blame feels good because it gives you somewhere else to point.⁣
⁣
Responsibility gives you power because it puts the future back in your hands.⁣
⁣
You may not have chosen every wound, setback, betrayal, or disadvantage.⁣
⁣
But you choose whether it becomes your excuse or your fuel.⁣
⁣
At some point, your life becomes the accumulated evidence of what you tolerated, pursued, avoided, repeated, and refused to change.⁣
⁣
Your choices and actions lead you to the results you have to show for your time here on Earth.⁣
⁣
So stop waiting for someone else to fix what only you can take responsibility for.⁣

Own it. Change it. Build something better. by @paul.sharp.coaching
