“Things They Did On Grass”
In the beginning there was Will and Paul…also Scott—high school friends, smokers of copious amounts of weed, musicians. Possibly in that order.

On Friday nights, when they would maybe gobble acid, too, they would scrape together money, head to Carl’s Junior as they were coming on, create psychedelic ketchup packet explosions with the help of a ceiling fan while waiting for food.

Satiated on garbage calories and chemicals, they would head for the high school sports field with an acoustic guitar and a couple bongos (technically talking drums). They would play Crosby Stills & Nash and Cat Stevens covers—record what they would call “Field Jams” on a boom box. They named the recordings “Things we did on Grass” with a nod to XTC (if you don’t know the song or the band… you could fix that in probably under 20 seconds). Scott would often adjourn the evening with the suggestion that they “Run free in the wind, Run Free!”
Scott would proceed to run in circles. Paul and Will watched. This was the beginning of Mason Lane. by @paul.spina
