SIMPLE PRACTICES FOR
PSYCHOLOGICAL-SPIRITUAL EXPANSION

The late Jane Roberts, author and psychic medium, channeled a being named Seth in the nineteen-seventies, a personality “no longer focused in physical reality.” His brand of spirituality is truly unique, comprehensive, and covers ten books. According to Seth, we all possess (at least) nine Soul Senses, or “inner senses,” which go utterly unused for the great majority of our lives, but which we will gain full access to, after we pass on. They imply however a concrete existence beyond the physical one, and we can learn to use them today in this life, to expand our personal sense of existence; or for practical or creative purposes. Sensitivity suffers when on mind-expanding drugs, however, so this is not recommended (at least in the beginning). The idea here is to first relax physically; second, to quiet thoughts and sensations; and lastly, to turn one’s attention from one’s normal sense of linear time, to a elastic sense of duration:

“Psychological Time”
Sit in a comfortable chair, with back as close to vertical as possible, as comfort allows. Close your eyes, and look upward, to the point at the middle of the forehead, the “seat of the imagination.” Take in a slow, deep breath, and exhale slowly. Repeat several times.
Slowly relax all areas of your body, from head to toe.
Put thoughts and concerns out of mind, and heart, for now. If thoughts or worries arise, then go back to breathing for a minute or two.
Now, think of the sensation of time, or duration—how it varies, depending on the situation; as in “having fun”, vs. being “moderately interested” vs. being “bored silly.” Ponder on the elasticity, or fluidity of time. Thoughts will arise, but for now, just let them go on, on their own. Focus on the sensation of “psychological time”.

When we free ourselves from the rigidity of our usual, linear thought processes, we begin to tap in consciously to that larger, unknown, 90-95% portion of the brain where our greater subjectivity lies, straddling the medium of time-space. One finds he or she can indeed set aside the linguistically-oriented ego, and still maintain a focus of awareness. by @paul987109
