So if you were like me when you were younger you were characterized as a “troubled youth”. I had trouble paying attention in class and just really had a dislike for school.

Also being young comes with lots of new emotions that are hard to deal with. Family trouble, attendance problem’s, legal issues the list goes on.
Needless to say my mother was searching for any way she could to help.

She came from the service industry. Working for many years as a bank clerk & in retail. Later in life she transitioned to be a pharmacy tech and medical receptionist. Some of her best friends were doctors and medical staff lots of good people you think you could trust, Momma was just doing what she thought was best.

One day, after what I thought was a regular visit to the medical center. Mom started bringing up stuff I was getting into and some other issues I was having with my mood swings. Her dad had battled depression, and she knew that a little bit of that would inevitably leach into us.

Long story short I came home with a “let’s try it for a week or so and see” prescription for Zoloft. A pediatric approved SSRI for OCD that had an “off label” usage as an antidepressant.

It seemed to much like a crutch, and I knew that the side effects could be as worse or more severe that the depression itself. I decided at some point within the first week that I could get away with not taking them. I also didn’t want to take them for 2-4 weeks before I felt better.

I knew what made me feel better nearly instantly. Only problem was mom didn’t want us in “more” trouble and this medicine was a little herb that wasn’t exactly easy to hide. (Question is how many of y’all were also prescribed antidepressants?) by @paul_4peace
